Saltmen take 3 points in 9-goal thriller

Wellington Amateurs and Droitwich Spa yet again served up a highly entertaining game at the Rocket Remaps Stadium on Saturday, which saw 9 goals, 2 wonder-goals and 2 red cards!

Droitwich couldn't have got off to a better start when Jordan Cox put Spa a goal up with barely 4 minutes on the clock as he cut inside from the left and fired a shot across goal into the far corner, and it was two after 12 minutes when Jack Davies netted from close range.

Amateurs responded on 21 minutes when the imposing William Wells tapped home on his debut into an empty after Matt Oliver came racing out of his goal only to be beaten to it by Matt Elsmore.

Droitwich were then awarded a penalty which Cox duly converted, and then Ams were reduced to 10 men when Marc Perry's high-boot on Lewis Phillips was somewhat harshly punished by the match official.

Spa were on top from this point on; George Brighton was given a debut 24 hours after signing, and he lead the forward line well in the absence of Connor Collins, having a couple of efforts repelled by home 'keeper Charlie Baker whilst Jack Davies and James Lemon also coming close to extending the lead.

Spa did grab a fourth before the break in a breathless first half, and it was a wonder goal which completed a hat-trick for Jordan Cox.

He received the ball on the edge of the area, flicked the ball over his marker and as the ball fell he smashed a powerful volley into the roof of the net which gave Baker no chance.

Droitwich started the second half well with Lemon, Davies, Cox Brighton and Tilley all registering half chances, but seemingly from nowhere Ams found fifth gear and scored 3 goals in 9 minutes!
Firstly Wells found a way through the Spa defence all too easily for his second of the game before more defence frailties were on show for a quick-fire (3 minute!) brace from Matt Elsmore.

Amateurs showed alot of endeavour going forward, but apart from the goals conceded, Matt Oliver was rarely called into serious action, and it became more of an uphill struggle for the Shropshire side when Elsmore was shown a second yellow card for an ill-advised lunge on Lewis Phillips and the hosts were down to 9-men for the remaining half an hour.

Droitwich took full advantage and it was generally one way traffic until the end of the game.

Jack Davies got the winning goal - a fabulous strike from 25-yards which nestled into the top corner, but there was still time for more heroics from the home stopper Charlie Baker who pulled out a superb save to deny Davies a hat-trick, and also to save a Jordan Cox penalty after James Lemon was brought down in the area.

A wonderful spectacle for the neutral but neither side will want to be part of another game like that!

Luckily for Droitwich they returned home with all 3 points to make it 3 straight wins ahead of this weekend's home game against Wyrley (ko 3pm).
