Spa back to winning ways

Droitwich Spa returned to winning ways against a strong Sikh Hunters after 2 games without a victory.

Spa started nervously and the the first period was an even affair with chances at both ends, however the hosts grew into the game and Alex Dugmore gave Spa the lead after 20 minutes finishing well at the back post.

It was 2-0 soon after thanks to great work down the left from Jordan Cox and a pinpoint cross which was powerfully headed home by Connor Collins.

Matt Oliver was never worked too hard yet had a few routine saves to make, but Sikh Hunters were looking more and more dangerous.

They pulled one back after Spa struggled to clear a corner thanks to a fine low finish from the edge of the box.

Within 3 minutes it was all square again and almost a carbon copy of Hunters' first goal - a weak clearance and this time another excellent finish from a tight angle.

Spa could have been forgiven for allowing their heads to drop, but with 5 minutes remaining in the first half James Lemon put the Saltmen back in front.

The second half was alot more one-sided and Droitwich soon added to their advantage when Lewis Phillips scored his first of the season from close range.
James Lemon then netted his second of the game with a good finish before Sikh Hunters again pulled a goal back after a fine strike.

Spa added a 6th to maintain their 3 goal advantage when 2 substitutes combined. A perfect corner from Anthony Smith found Haydn Morris who powered home a header - a rarity from the winger.

The scoring was sealed with a few minutes remaining - a bizarre own goal from the visitors as what seemed like a chipped back-pass from the half way line looped over 'keeper Thomas Greenhouse to leave everyone in attendance in disbelief.

Droitwich looked back to their old selves, especially in the second half, to maintain their 18-month unbeaten home record. Another excellent record is that Mark Owen has never overseen three consecutive league games without a win, which was also kept alive.
