Saltmen ease to victory

Droitwich Spa comfortably dispatched of lowly Telford Juniors by a score-line of 7-0 on an extremely windy afternoon in Shropshire.

The Saltmen were made to wait until the 38th minute to open the scoring, but countless chances went begging before hand.

Some good work down the right from Burgess who fizzed in a low cross which evaded both Ben Tilbury and Haydn Morris, and a carbon copy attack which debutant Chris Conway couldn't get on the end of.

The home side had goalkeeper Mitchell Delamere to thank on many occasions - an inspired first half performance from the home stopper denied Haydn Morris, Ben Tilbury, Brad Burgess and on more than one occasion Chris Conway from opening the scoring.

The home side had a good 15 minute spell and had a few efforts from range courtesy of Dave Jones, Charlie Cook & Will Drewfield, but Matt Oliver was equal to them.

The break-through came 7 minutes before half time when Matty Hunt rose highest to powerfully head home his 5th league goal of the season from Cory Rudd's corner which left Delamere with no chance.

In the second half the Saltmen, with the strong wind behind them, blew the hosts away as Matty Oliver seldom touched the ball.

There were several chances for Conway, Burgess and Morris when well positioned which were all saved by Delamere, but Conway opened up his account for Droitwich by rounding the stopper to make it 2-0 with the half 7 minutes old.

The floodgates then opened as far as Telford were concerned as Spa moved the ball quickly and all too often got in behind their fragile back-line. Cory Rudd the provider for Ben Tilbury to coolly add a third, then Brad Burgess made it 0-4 to the visitors after Conway put him through to go around the 'keeper and tap into an empty net.

Conway contrived to miss a couple more excellent chances, but he could barely miss the next one as a flowing move down the right hand side and pinpoint cross from substitute Dan Cottrill found the head of the striker who finished well.

Barely 4 minutes later Conway completed a hat-trick in under 15 minutes thanks to good work from another substitute Jack Davies.

The front-man also had a speculative effort from the halfway line come crashing back off the woodwork with Delamere beaten.

Haydn Morris, Jack Davies and Dan Cottrill all had further chances, before Chris Conway netted his fourth to round off the scoring and complete a straight forward victory.
Spa have scored 17 goals in their previous 2 league games ahead of Saturday's visit to Tipton Town (ko 3pm).
