Saltmen 1-0 Allscott

Droitwich narrowly edged out Allscott in this West Midlands Regional League Division 1 encounter courtesy of a late James Lemon wonder-strike to take all the points and return to top-spot.

Allscott gave an excellent account of themselves from start to finish - very well organised and restricting the home side to just a handful of chances.

Droitwich did edge the possession however, but found a stubborn back-line hard to break down.

A strong wind played its part in the first half with visiting 'keeper Dan Pilkington having to deal with plenty of crosses - some more convincingly than others as James Lemon was denied at the far post and a sweet strike from the edge of the box by Jack Allerton went narrowly over.

Allscott had a great chance to take the lead mid-way through the half as pacey winger Ryan McLean was put through on goal but Matt Oliver pulled off an excellent save to keep the scores level.

Ben Tilbury had the Saltmen's best chance of the game but put his shot wide when well positioned and the half ended goal-less.

Droitwich had the better of the second half with the visitors rarely threatening.
James Lemon should have scored with a close-range header which cannoned back off the post and both a Matty Hunt header and a Tilbury low shot didn't trouble Pilkington.
Leon Bake and Max Marshall both had half chances for Allscott but they couldn't capitalise.

The visitors would rue those chances as with Spa turning the screw, James Lemon picked the ball up on the edge of the area, cut inside and fired a wicked shot that cannoned in off the inside of the post in the 83rd minute and Allscott's brave resistance was broken.

The visitors tried to force an equaliser late on but nothing materialised and Droitwich held out for three important points.
