Sintilating Saltmen smash Glass's unbeaten start

By Caitlin Valle
Droitwich Spa triumphed over league leaders Roman Glass St George on Saturday, bringing their top of the table status down to just goal difference.
The game began fast, with both teams attacking furiously, forcing many saves from either keeper. However, it was Spa who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, after a Charlie Tilley flick on set up James Lemon for a powerful volley from 12 yards that gave Glass keeper Brown no chance.
Four minutes later, the club captain struck again with a finish of dreams.
From 40 yards, Lemon hits the ball over the goalkeeper off his line for a goal of the season contender, Spa’s second of the match, and his fifth of the season.

Around the 28 minute mark, the game got a little feisty following a challenge on the opposing keeper, causing a melee and a multitude of yellow cards.

Droitwich continued strong for the rest of the half, creating multiple chances, being unlucky not to put them away.
Just before the half concluded, Reiss Taylor-Randle latched onto a hopeful ball over the top and chipped the oncoming Brown and put the ball into the far corner for his second goal in consecutive games. The first half finished in a 3-0 lead for the Saltmen with some of the best football fans had the pleasure of seeing this season so far.

Roman Glass came out fighting in the second half, managing to pull a goal back in the 51st minute after Louis Ward scored from a free header after a corner.

Despite many attacks, Glass’ attempt to secure any points from this game would prove to be a fruitless endeavour, as in the 62nd minute, substitute Alex Dugmore had the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out for an apparent foul.

In the end however, he got his goal – as in the 73rd minute following a goal line clearance from Tilbury, Spa broke on a counter attack – with Dugmore capitalising on Brown’s spilled save after a Nathan Binner shot.

The game closed 4-1 to Spa, with 196 people witnessing the win despite the dismal weather.

Droitwich are now 6 games unbeaten and are the League’s top scorers – along with being level on points with Roman Glass at the top, who suffered their first defeat of the season to Spa.

Next Saturday, the Saltmen travel to 2nd bottom Lydney Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
It won't be a simple task as Lydney have won their last two games since signing former Birmingham City and Grimsby Town striker Matt Green.
