Fourth straight win for Saltmen

By Caitlin Valle

A tough game to watch for the 202 supporters in attendance at Kingy’s on Saturday afternoon, as Droitwich scrape their fourth victory of the season in a 2-1 win to put them at the top of the Hellenic League Premier Division table.
A variety of chances fell to Longlevens in the early minutes of the game, particularly to Sutherland, but none could cross the goal line. However, almost against the run of play in the 10th minute, Dugmore flicks the ball on and James Lemon gets the faintest of touches to guide the ball into the bottom corner putting Spa in the lead and putting his name on the scoreboard for the first time this season.

Chances for Droitwich continued on and one was eventually taken in the 24th minute by Reiss Taylor-Randle, also for his first goal of the season and for the club. He pounced on a loose ball in the Longlevens box and slotted it home.

Spa appeared slow when the second 45 commenced, and Longlevens pressed relentlessly.
The constant pressure hit its peak in the 65th minute when Dom Hill saw red after clattering his man in an attempt to collect a loose ball, also giving away a penalty.
With Dom Hill now suspended, and Dom Rogerson injured – Spa manager Andy Crowther will have to search for a new goalkeeper.
He didn’t have the luxury of time in this game though, as with no goalkeeper on the bench – Alex Dugmore turned in his shooting boots for goalkeeper gloves and stepped in net.

The Longlevens penalty taker Cam Williams didn’t test Dugmore, as he sent his shot wide.

Not very long after this though, some pinball in the Saltmen’s box lead to Bradley Martin pulling a goal back for Longlevens.
A tough rest of the game to watch for Spa fans, but they managed to hold on for all 3 points.

Unbeaten Slimbridge are the next opposition at Kingy’s on Tuesday evening, kicking off at 7:45pm.
It will be a tough game for the Saltmen, as Slimbridge have proven their metal many a time in the early days of the season, particularly when they defeated higher ranked team Portishead Town away from home 6-2 in the Emirates FA Cup.
