Roman Glass St George 3-1 Droitwich Spa

DSFC Admin27 Oct - 07:53

Spa shattered by League leaders Glass

Droitwich Spa were beaten 3-1 at League leaders Roman Glass St George and have now gone 3 games without a win.

With the other results in the Division going the Saltmen’s way, Spa maintain their 2nd placed position, 3 points behind Roman Glass with a game in hand.

The first half was an even affair, but it was Glass who got their noses in front after just 10 minutes after Droitwich failed to clear their lines from a corner, Keith Kearney hit a drive from the edge of the box that took a couple of deflections before nestling in the bottom corner.

After the goal, Droitwich were the side who took the initiative and were more threatening going forward for the remainder of the half.
Lewis Phillips hit an effort from distance that home ‘keeper Rob Brown smothered, then Perry Moss’s free kick in a promising position went wide of the post.

However Spa got their reward for persistence as an ill-advised back-pass was read by James Lemon, who, approaching goal, was felled by the onrushing Brown and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Ben Tilbury confidently stepped up to convert the penalty on 33 minutes to equalise and finish an even first half all square.

The Saltmen started the second half brightly as well, without troubling Brown, but it was the hosts got their noses in front for the second time of the afternoon on 51 minutes as a fine ball from deep split the Droitwich defence and substitute Nathan Hall produced a fine low finish.

From then on it was the League leaders that controlled proceedings as first Owen Punselie hit a volley just wide then Laurent Wilson called Rogerson into smart saves on 65 and 69 minutes.

Droitwich failed to react to the threat that the Glass substitute was causing and it was 3-1 and game over on 74 minutes as the same Laurent Wilson picked the ball up on the left flank, cut inside and beat Rogerson at his near post with a powerful drive.

The Spa substitutions couldn’t change the tide of the game, however Droitwich posed more of an aerial presence up front after the introduction of Liam Livesey; Charlie Tilley with the only shot on target of the second half for Spa, whilst Joe Hurdman hit the woodwork in the closing stages but Roman Glass held on comfortably to claim a deserved win.

Droitwich now have four consecutive Home games starting next Saturday (ko 3pm) against FC Stratford in the Challenge Cup 3rd Round.
There is a reduced admission price for this fixture (£5 adult, £3 Concessions, Season ticket holders & Under-12's free).
