The Saltmen’s first home game of the new season, and first home game in Step 5 resulted in triumph by a large margin, with a stellar 5-0 victory over visitors Westfield.
Despite a number of unavailable or injured players, such as Nathan Binner, Lewis Phillips, and Perry Moss, pressure on the defence of Westfields was common place in the first half.
The first goal for Spa came at just 7 minutes, after Alex Dugmore broke the deadlock following a close range header from a corner.
Dugmore struck again at ’23, after a collected exchange between him and James Lemon resulted in the striker lobbing the ball over the keeper.
Westfield kept a lot of possession in this game and had a fair few chances, but struggled to break through an incredibly well organised Spa defence.
The second 45 began with a close chance for Westfield’s Clark, but was denied professionally by Ben Tilbury.
Soon after this at ’53, a brilliant turn by James Lemon supplied Dugmore with his hat-trick, who’s deflected cross a mere ten minutes later lands at the feet of Charlie Tilley, who strikes a volley into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.
An amazing crowd of 306 witnessed the brilliant performance put on by the Saltmen, and that only continued with some immense play between two of the Hurdman brothers, lands the ball to Alex Dugmore, who got his fourth of the night along with his fifth of the season, and Spa’s fifth of the night.
This victory was Droitwich’s first in the new season, with their first clean sheet along with it.
10 goals in 3 games for the Saltmen with the next match being against Thornbury United on Saturday (kick off 3pm) in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, where Spa are the travellers.
Following this, Droitwich have a run of 3 home games starting on Tuesday 12th and ending Tuesday 19th.
