Droitwich Spa eased to a 5-0 win over mid-table Tytherington Rocks at Kingy's on Saturday to round off a title winning season in style, in front of around 600 spectators.
It was a carnival atmosphere but Droitwich started nervously on a difficult surface and despite Andy Crowther's men taking the initiative from the off, it took 19 minutes for Spa to take the lead, with their first meaningful effort, when Nathan Binner latched onto a through-bal, rounded Rocks goal-keeper Peter Dykes and tuck the ball away into the far corner from a tight angle.
The visitors should have capitalised on hesitant defending as George Box was allowed to get in to a shooting position but he fired wide from the edge of the area on 25 minutes.
Left back Lewis Phillips replied instantly for Droitwich when he found himself one-against-one with Dykes, but his shot was well saved by the legs of the onrushing 'keeper
Alex Dugmore thought that he'd doubled Spa's lead after heading in a pinpoint cross from Hurdman, but the referee spotted an infringement and the goal was disallowed.
Spa kept probing until the half time whistle and Hurdman was millimeters away from connecting to Phillips's whipped cross from the left.
The Saltmen started the second half well, and on 55 minutes Josh Hurdman was brought down in the area. Captain James Lemon stepped up to convert the spot kick, and from then on it was one way traffic.
Dykes made a great save to deny a Binner brace from a free kick, then Jay Sauntson's header at the back post went just wide.
It was 3-0 on 70 minutes when top scorer Alex Dugmore added to his tally in style as he broke the offside trap to chip Dykes who raced off his line. It secured Dugmore's title as Division 1 golden boot winner with 30 League goals in the regular season, and 36 overall in 38 appearances.
Ten minutes later Dugmore was denied by a great save from Dykes, but Phillips was on hand to tap home the rebound from close range for his first Spa goal of the season after 41 appearances, and his first Spa goal since 2020, to make it 4-0.
Substitute Perry Moss headed just wide after good work from Dugmore before Josh Hurdman rounded off the scoring to cap a 5-0 win, to ensure The Saltmen ended the season 11-points clear at the top of the table.
The players were applauded off the pitch by the partizan crowd before returning to receive end of season club awards, League winners medals and lift the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 trophy, in a day that will live long in the memory for everyone connected with the club.
