As storm Bert put paid to all but three games in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1, Droitwich Spa overcame both the elements and a battling Tytherington Rocks on Saturday to earn three more important points in a 0-3 win.

The Saltmen extended their lead at the top to nine points and continued an unbeaten streak in the League stretching to 15 games, of which 13 wins and two draws.

Droitwich controlled proceedings for the majority of the game, and started much the stronger side as James Lemon came agonisingly close to opening the scoring on 5 minutes but his low drive went just wide.
Spa didn't have to wait long to open the scoring as determined play from Alex Dugmore, who outmuscled Alex Sumner, dribbled to the touchline and produced a low cross for Perry Moss to stab home with 8 minutes on the clock.

Lemon could have doubled the advantage just moments later with just Dykes to beat but his shot was again placed just the wrong side of the post.

The hosts created their first chance of the game on 15 minutes when Max Ferretti hit a low drive from the edge of the box but Rogerson got down quickly to save well.

Droitwich took back the initiative and Dugmore squandered two excellent chances from close range as the conditions started to play a part.

Tytherington enjoyed a good spell of possession and tried to get the ball down and pass around, and the tactic almost bore fruit when Liam Pullen's effort from range had Rogerson beaten but went just wide of the post.

Charlie Tilley responded for Droitwich when his curling shot on the turn looked to be heading for the bottom corner but again ended up the wrong side of the post.
Tilley was then denied by a fine save from Peter Dykes as he scrambled across goal to tip a low shot around the post, and Lemon had the final chance of the half but his chipped effort from an angle went over the onrushing Dykes and over the cross-bar.

The hosts started the second half on the front foot and should have equalised on 49 minutes, as the ball was worked across the box to Matt Hoare who seemed to have time to take a touch but opted to hit a first time effort which sailed over the bar.
It was a let off for the Saltmen and on 50 minutes Dugmore capitalised on a weak back-pass, touched it wide around Dykes but fired over when Tilley and Moss were ideally positioned for a tap in.

Spa added a second just two minutes later after Dugmore's flicked header and some sloppy defending allowed Charlie Tilley two bites of the cherry to beat Dykes at close range.

Andy Crowther started to make changes and Cory Rudd returned to action for the first time in 3 games.
After being on the pitch for less than 2 minutes he got on the end of Moss's cross, took a touch and fired a powerful drive into the roof of the net from 20-yards.

Rocks almost replied instantly after great work from Kyle Head and a fiersome strike forced Rogerson into a fine save, then Dugmore again came close to opening his account for the afternoon being the last goalmouth action of the afternoon as Droitwich comfortably saw out the final quarter.

The only talking points were a first team debut for Harry Griffiths, and with just a few minutes later Rocks substitute Lewis Bezer needlessly stamped on Nathan Binner with the Spa man already on the floor and earned a straight red card.

Both sides should be credited for the way they tried to play the game in poor conditions and the match officials also managed a clean game well.

Next up for Droitwich is a home game against Stonehouse Town on Saturday (ko 3pm); a difficult game against a side who have lost just twice this season.
