Saltmen 8-0 Carterton

Droitwich Spa FC registered a 5th straight League victory with a categoric 8-0 scoreline over Carterton on Saturday; the club's biggest margin of victory in 5 years and on the day the biggest margin of victory in the whole of the UK!

It was Carterton who had the first opportunity as Ryan Sagar's direct free kick 25-yards out was held by Rogerson as early as the 2nd minute, but that was as close as the Oxfordshire side came to a goal throughout the game.

Charlie Tilley opened the scoring on 9 minutes after good work down the right from Moss, whose low cross fed the midfielder, with his back to goal, Tilley took a touch and hit a low effort on the turn which rifled into the bottom corner taking Cullen by surprise.

Just 2 minutes later and Jay Sauntson was millimeters away from opening his account for the season when his powerful header rattled the crossbar.

The advantage was doubled on 21 minutes as Nathan Binner finished off a fine build up started by Rogerson; his low effort from the edge of the box creeped under Cullen who got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out.

Tilley turned provider on 24 minutes as after Dugmore intercepted a poor pass from the visitors, he unselfishly squared to James Lemon who had a simple tap in to score his first goal of the season.

Alex Dugmore then scored his 8th goal in 5 games after Joe Clayton's cross found him for a close range finish, and Lemon made it 5-0 before half time after more great play from Moss.

The Saltmen didn't let up in the second half and it was one way traffic.
Binner scored his second of the afternoon after more great build up play when Moss played in a low cross, Lemon feigned a touch to allow Binner a simple finish which he fired emphatically into the roof of the net.

Lemon then came close to a hat-trick but saw his attempt cleared off the line by Casciero, then the afternoon got worse for the visitors when James McCarthy was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Tilley.

The task got even more difficult for Carterton and the game continued to be played out in their own half as they defended deeply, but Spa had no problem in breaking down the reargaurd as Lucas Edmonds (twice), Binner, Moss, Fusco, Rudd and Hurdman (three times) all came close to a 7th goal before Binner completed his hat-trick after he cut out another stray Carterton pass to curl a fine effort into the top corner past a helpless Cullen.

The visiting 'keeper made three excellent saves to deny Moss, Hurdman and Edmonds before Perry Moss rounded off the scoring two minutes from time with the goal of the game:
a long high ball from the back which he managed to keep in play and pluck out of the air with a great first touch, he cut in, turning his marker inside out before curling a precision shot into the top corner from the edge of the area leaving everyone bewildered!
After three assists Moss's spectacular solo effort was his 5th goal of the season to cap off a fantastic individual and team display.

The victory gave Droitwich a 3 point lead at the top of the table, 3 clean sheets from 3 games at Kingys (as many clean sheets as the whole of last season!) and an impressive goal difference of +21 after 5 League games.

The Saltmen have a busy weekend ahead as Nuneaton Griff are the visitors in the Isuzu FA Vase next Saturday (ko 3pm) and on Bank Holiday Monday Wantage Town make the long trip up to Droitwich in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 (ko 3pm).
