Fine Spa performance earns important win

The Saltmen cruised to a 3-0 home victory over 2nd placed Allscott Heath to secure an important win, 3 points and clean sheet to edge them one step closer to securing a place in the play-offs.

It was the visitors that had the better of the opening exchanges, especially down each flank with the pace and trickery of Jacob Welch and Armando Woods, however Spa restricted the Shropshire guests to just possession in promising positions and Oliver Sayer didn't have a save to make over the 90 minutes.

Andy Crowther had to make numerous enforced changes due to injury and illness, so the recently dual registered Jamie Sauntson (Hereford Pegasus) made his debut alongside Cory Rudd in the centre of defence, whilst usual centre back Alex Dugmore was moved to a central striker position and Captain James Lemon deployed out wide!

It didn't take Spa long to open the scoring, and it was Alex Dugmore who scored yet another header, giving Ross Bebb no chance as his effort flew into the top corner on 4 minutes.
Dugmore was inches away from adding to his tally just four minutes later before Nathan Binner fired an effort wide from a good position.

Bebb came three times to Allscott's rescue as he denied Dugmore when through on goal and then both Charlie Tilley and Perry Moss from point blank range whilst Lemon also smacked an effort off the cross-bar for the hosts who searched for a second in a dominant display.

The Allscott stopper then undid all of his previous good work when he scuffed a straightforward clearance straight in to Dugmore, who made no mistake from close range on 33 minutes.

Droitwich finished the half three goals to the good as Moss's half-volley found the bottom corner a couple of minutes before the half time whistle.

The second half was a much tamer affair as Droitwich maturely managed the game and preserve their lead. The only chances of note fell to Tilley, who was again denied by Bebb, and right at the end the Shropshire sides' stopper was again alert to save with his legs Lucas Edmonds' effort.

Spa went to three games unbeaten, and in two of those games on-loan Birmingham City goalkeeper Olly Sayer has kept two clean sheets.

Andy Crowthers' men travel to Sutton United on Saturday (ko 3pm) in their final away game of the season where three points will be enough to seal the Saltmen a place in the play-offs for the second consecutive season.
