Saltmen bounce back in style

The Saltmen got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon at Chelmsley Town thanks to a devastating first half performance which saw Droitwich score 7 goals.

Spa made their intentions clear and opened the scoring on just 4 minutes when Connor Collins squared for Perry Moss to roll the ball into an empty net, from the following move just 1 minute later Josh Hurman beat the offside trap but put his effort wide of the target.

The youngster didn't have to wait long to register his first of three goals of the afternoon as he latched onto a through ball and lobbed the onrushing Liam Moss in the Town goal for 2-0 with 8 minutes played.

Chelmsley's Adam Woods had the next chance but Olly Sayer made an excellent save to tip his effort around the post.

On 15 minutes however Droitwich made it 3-0 when Hurdman struck with a simple finish with only Moss to beat, and on 17 minutes Charlie Tilley scored Droitwich's 100th League goal of the campaign and his 15th League goal of the season with a fine strike from 20-yards.

The returning from suspension Perry Moss had two further chances to add a 5th for Spa before Adam Woods tested Sayer again, but on 33 minutes Nathan Binner hit an emphatic 25-yard strike into a helpless Moss's top corner to all but put Droitwich out of sight.

Three minutes later Perry Moss grabbed his brace when after some trickery, he drove a low shot in at the near post, and it was 0-7 before half time when Josh Hurdman scored his first senior hat-trick in just over 30 minutes when he got to a through ball ahead of Chelmsley 'keeper Moss to tap into an empty net.

Instead of going for broke and a possible club record win, Droitwich looked content to control the game and make several changes in the second half, and the host defended well to limit any further change in the scoreline, making the second half very uneventful.
Perry Moss had two decent opportunities to add to the margin of victory, but the closest anyone came was a fantastic attempted chip by Chelmsley substitute James Brown, who saw Sayer off his line and hit the woodwork with a 30-yard effort.

Droitwich will be looking to secure a place in the play-offs in the final week of the season; on Tuesday night Stapenhill visit Kingy's, 2nd placed Allscott Heath are the visitors on Thursday night (both ko 7.45pm) and on Saturday Droitwich are on the road to Sutton United (ko 3pm).
