Droitwich come from behind for important victory

Droitwich started the game brightly at Queen Street, despite suffering consecutive 3-2 defeats in their previous two games, and with just 3 minutes on the clock the Saltmen thought they had taken the lead as Connor Collins tapped home from close range after Joe Gilbert parried Perry Moss's drive into his path, but the linesman's flag denied the goal.

Just moments later, Collins's scuffed effort forced Gilbert into a scrambling save and from the resulting corner, Cory Rudd's thumping header was denied by the woodwork.

The Steelmen replied when the ever dangerous Essa Sawyers beat the offside trap down the left flank, crossing for Dan Danks whose low effort was cleared off the line by Lewis Phillips with Sayer beaten.

However the hosts didn't have to wait long to break the deadlock as a free kick was spilled by Olly Sayer and Sam Yankson was on hand to stab home from close range on 13 minutes.

Within 5 minutes parity was restored as Angelo Franco miscued a clearance and James Lemon hit a fantastic first time effort from the edge of the box in to Gilbert's top corner.

Droitwich created numerous other chances before the break as Gilbert acrobatically denied Lemon, Moss and Collins whilst Charlie Tilley's overhead kick nestled into the bottom corner only for another offside decision to deny him a 14th goal of the campaign.

Bilston enjoyed some good possession throughout the contest but with a shoot on sight tactic, failed to hit the target and rarely tested Sayer, and within 3 minutes of the 2nd half whistle, the hosts were really up against it as Lee Wood's 2-footed challenge on Rudd saw the referee produce a straight red card.

The Saltmen came close on a number of occasions; first Perry Moss's effort was deflected over before Collins' header narrowly missed the target, but Droitwich took the lead for the first time in the contest when Alex Dugmore headed home his 11th goal of the season from a corner.

There were further half chances for substitute Josh Hurdman and Moss, but Spa were happy to sit back, allow Bilston to keep possession and defend their lead, which was achieved without any real problems until the final whistle that saw Droitwich claim an important three points against a solid Steelmen outfit.

Droitwich have three more games to fit in over the course of the week, and with a fine win at Queen Street got their play-off push back on track.
