Droitwich Spa and AFC Bridgnorth served up a 10-goal thriller (and a match reporter's nightmare) on Tuesday evening at Kingys in front of another impressive attendance of 247.
If the Spa faithful thought that they got value for money in the last two home games, which had seen 13 goals scored, then they had 10 to savour on this occasion, as the Saltmen moved up to 4th in the table, and became the second highest scorers in the Division (88 goals scored in 34 League games).
Haydn Morris opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock after he finished after some neat passing across the front line, but the lead was short-lived as just 10-minutes later the visitors drew level when Charlie Swingwood volleyed home from close range as Spa failed to clear their lines from a corner.
However man of the moment Morris regained Droitwich's advantage after the ball bobbled around the Bridgnorth back-line, and he was first to react to guide the ball past the on-rushing Harvey Coley.
Connor Collins added to his seasons' tally with a fine chip over Coley from an angle on 34 minutes, and Droitwich were 4-1 up when James Lemon nodded home at the back post from a corner, to give the Saltmen a 4-1 lead on 41 minutes.
The visitors had time to pull one back before the break when Ryan Taylor sprung the offside trap and crossed low in to the box, however Rogerson's save was parried into the path of Cory Rudd who was helpless but to deflect the ball in to his own net on 44 minutes.
The scoreline tells more about the quality of the defending on show from both sides than anything else, and within 7 minutes of the restart Bridgnorth had unbelievably come back from a 4-1 deficit to even up the scores as first Dan Turton with a close range header, then Luke Morris, who capitalised on a fortuitous deflection, levelled up the scores a 4-4 with over half an hour to play! The assistant referee had flagged for offside, but after a lengthy discussion with referee, the goal was given.
Droitwich were the hungrier of the two sides though and the determination of James Lemon leading by example to chase loose balls paid off when he was fouled in the area by Turton to give Collins the chance to put Spa back in front from the penalty spot, which he duly took on the hour mark.
Just 10-minutes later the referee pointed to the spot again, as Lemon was brought down in the penalty box.
This time Haydn Morris stepped up to complete his hat-trick on 71 minutes, and his 5th goal in 2 games.
The last 20-minutes were thankfully uneventful, save for Josh Hurdman's teasing run and wayward finish, and Spa were glad to hear the full time whistle in a game where they were made to work extremely hard for the three points.
Droitwich are next in action on Saturday with a visit to League leaders and champions elect Dudley Town (ko 3pm) where Spa will no doubt have to play much better if they are to have any aspirations of a positive result.
