Dominant Spa sneak victory

The Saltmen came away from the Coppice Colliery Ground with all three points to continue a run of 7-games without defeat.

Spa started the game in blistering fashion, causing the home defence all kinds of problems, and had it been for some more inspired finishing the result could have been greatly changed.

As it was, after 7 minutes when James Lemon was brought down in the area, Connor Collins's penalty was well saved by home 'keeper Kieran Hart, and Hayes were further indebted to their young 'keeper as he kept out further efforts from Collins, Lemon and Perry Moss.
Droitwich didn't have to wait long to break the deadlock as Collins broke down the left hand side and his drilled low cross found Perry Moss who tapped in to an empty net with Hart stranded on 15 minutes for his 7th goal of the season.

The in-form Collins was then replaced minutes later, and his replacement Josh Hurdman caused the home defence yet more problems however his efforts on target were comfortably collected by Hart and the 1st period ended at just 0-1 as the Hayes couldn't force Rogerson into a meaningful save.

The second half continued where Droitwich left off as both Hurdman brothers, Moss, Lemon, Braiden-Smith and Dugmore all could have increased the advantage, meanwhile Lemon's acrobatic bicycle kick went just wide.

Just after the hour-mark Josh Hurdman, in a carbon copy of the opening goal, was on hand to tap in Moss's low cross for his first senior goal, and the Saltmen's 110th of the season in all competitions!

The hosts didn't give up and threatened twice through leading marksman Nick Wellecomme, but his efforts were off target.

In general, Droitwich defended impeccably, but as Andy Crowther's men sat back to soak up the increasing pressure Wellecomme raced clear of the defence to finish emphatically into Rogerson's net with a little under 10 minutes to play.

Spa looked dangerous on the counter, but there was one more big chance that fell to the hosts near to the death when Connor Ryan saw his top-corner bound effort brilliant palmed away by Rogerson, and Spa returned to Worcestershire with a very important three points to maintain 3rd place in the League.

The two sides will meet again on Saturday at Kingy's Droitwich (ko 3pm) where Spa will be hoping for a similar result against resilient opposition.
