Wolves Sporting and Droitwich Spa couldn’t be separated for the second time this season, but Droitwich will be ruing missed chances to have not taken all three points against 10-man Sporting.
On an excellent playing surface in rainy conditions, the Saltmen raced in to an early lead in a superb first half performance as Captain James Lemon netted his 19th League goal of the season on 13 minutes, and just 5 minutes later Sam Hurdman made it 0-2 with another fine finish from the edge of the area.
The hosts spurned two excellent chances; both falling to Jewel Mbachu who should have done better.
Dom Rogerson then saved Spa with a fine save to deny Stanley Mugisha from distance, but at the other end Hurdman and Lemon saw efforts saved superbly by Aidan Cox, and Collins’ effort then cleared off the line in an entertaining first half.
Spa came out of the blocks quickly in the second period with and again James Lemon came close, however with barely 10 minutes of the re-start, a lunging tackle from Tom Harley produced a straight red card from the referee.
Droitwich dominated possession and had further chances falling to substitutes Josh Hurdman (twice) with the guilt edged chance falling to Connor Baker, who when receiving a square from Hurdman’s cross blazed over the bar with an open goal, and he is still searching for his 1st goal at Step 6.
An improvised back-line then had a warning when Mbachu’s effort was disallowed for offside, however the hosts pulled one back when Henry Eze headed in at the back post from a corner.
Not long after Daud Ahmed beat the offside trap & Rogerson to the ball to equalise with 10 minutes to play, and Spa saw victory slip through their fingers as they couldn’t find a way through the Sporting back-line during the remainder of the game.
It was the third consecutive game where Sporting had come from behind to take a positive result from a League game, after Saturday's 2-2 draw at Paget and the previous 2-1 win over Dudley Town.
The ball did end up in the back of Wolves’ net before full time, but the goal was chalked off for a foul.
Droitwich would probably have settled for a point before the game, but leading 0-2 against 10-men, will be disappointed to not
have taken all three points.
The draw does mean that Spa climb in to the play-off places at Bilston Town's expense, and Spa also have the benefit of two games in hand on the Steelmen.
Next up for Spa is the first of two testing home games on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm), when Wednesfield visit Kingy's for Non-League Day.
Then, on Tuesday night AFC Bridgnorth are our visitors (ko 7.45pm).
