Droitwich Spa FC made it 3 wins in the last 4 League games with a 3-2 victory at the Cottage Ground over Wednesfield on a bitterly cold Tuesday night.
The result keeps the Saltmen in touching distance of the play-off places at the half-way stage of the season, to end a busy period of fixtures recently which has also seen Spa progress to the Quarter Finals of the Worcestershire Senior Cup, meanwhile bowing out of the League Cup.
The hosts started the game on the front foot as Dmitri Dunkley and Coady White saw their efforts flash wide of Matt Oliver's goal early on, and it took Droitwich a quarter of hour to get into any sort of rhythm on a bobbly surface which both sides struggled to contend with in the first half particularly.
As Spa grew into the game, Haydn Morris, Luke Molloy and Perry Moss were causing all sorts of problems for the Cottagers, and the former forced a good save out of Dom Smith.
Droitwich then had Haydn Morris to thank for a goal-line clearance to deny Joe Finch. Meanwhile at the other end, James Lemon came close before Alex Dugmore's header cleared the bar.
Droitwich took the lead on 22 minutes when James Lemon muscled his way past Ashley Bellingham which allowed Perry Moss through one-on-one to send Smith the wrong way and nestle his strike into the bottom corner.
Wednesfield were always dangerous on the counterattack, and Lee Mayne first dragged an effort wide, before forcing a fine save out of Matt Oliver to tip a powerful effort from an angle wide of the post. Some hesitant defending then allowed White to race clear, but Oliver was again on hand to save Spa.
James Lemon then saw a header hit the woodwork, and Jack Brighton's chipped header had Smith back-pedalling desperately to eventually tip over the bar, and Perry Moss also struck an effort wide.
Spa did extend their lead when Wednesfield only half-cleared a corner, Droitwich worked the ball out to the left where a completely free Moss squared for Lemon who had the simple task of tapping in to an empty net 10 minutes before the break.
Droitwich continued to press in the second half, as both Lemon and Morris came close, but it was Morris's replacement Ollie Thompson who made it 0-3 after a pin-point through ball beat the home defence which the winger latched on to before expertly finding the bottom corner.
Spa continued to make several changes as the hosts changed their shape to fight for a come-back, and it was on with 15-minutes to play as substitute Jack Dew's low, powerful strike found Oliver's bottom corner.
Droitwich then had several half chances falling to substitutes Thompson, Charles and Hurdman, but the Cottagers defended well to deny their efforts.
Wednesfield enjoyed plenty of possession and a couple of free kick's in promising positions, but they were unable to capitalise on this, and Oliver wasn't overly troubled, however with just 4 minutes left on the clock Rhys Horton struck to set up what could have been a nervy finish, but Droitwich managed the remainder of the game very well to return home with an important 3 points.
