Spa complete come-back to grab all three points

Droitwich Spa came from behind to complete the double over Chelmsley Town this season with a 3-1 victory at Kingy's.

It was the Saltmen's fourth straight win, however despite controlling the game for long periods, Andy Crowther's men had to do it the hard way as they went a goal down in the first half.

Spa came flying out of the blocks and could have been 4-0 up in the opening five minutes with the Town defence on the rocks, however the woodwork saved them before a fine intervention by Captain Aidan Doherty denied Perry Moss who had an open goal to aim at. James Lemon then headed over the bar, whilst Moss also missed the target when well positioned.

Chelmsley's main threat came from leading scorer Mark Rose, but when the striker had just Dom Rogerson to beat he fired his effort several meters over the cross-bar to Spa's relief.

Droitwich kept plugging away as most of the action was in Chelmsley's half, however all too often the final ball was lacking, and Town had re-organised and defended their lines well.

Dom Rogerson was then called in to action as he tipped a Sam Jeeves effort over the bar, and from the next attack Rose opened the scoring with a close range header with 10 minutes of the first half left to play, in Town's second attack.

Both sides struggled to keep the ball down in relatively strong wind, but Alex Dugmore, and most of the 210 in attendance felt that Droitwich should have had a spot kick when the aforementioned burst in to the box and appeared to be brough down by Coley, however the referee waved away the protests and the visitors went in to the break a goal ahead.

Droitwich again controlled large spells of the second half, but permitted another two excellent chances for Rose, whose finishing was poor as he failed to work Rogerson on both occasions; the latter effort being more spectacularly wide than the first.

At the other end, Moss spurned another chance when well positioned as his powerful effort went way over Tom Allsopp's bar, but the Town 'keeper was called in to action to tip over a James Lemon effort, then deny Perry Moss when through on goal.

The equaliser came after substitute Ollie Thompson was in the right place at the right time to stab home from a yard out after Brighton's corner was headed down in to his path, just one minute after being introduced!

The change payed further dividends for the Saltmen when Thompson earned the free-kick leading up to the goal that gave Spa the lead.
Chelmsley may be disappointed with their otherwise resolute defensive performance, as Alex Dugmore thundered in a header, completely unmarked, in off the post to put Droitwich ahead with 15 minutes remaining.

The scoring wasn't over either, as Dugmore's defensive partner Matt Hunt was on hand to flick a deft header in to Allsopp's net with 5 minutes of normal time to play to secure Droitwich all three points, and end Chelmsley's great form at Kingy's.

Next up, on Tuesday night, Droitwich make the short trip up to Lye Town to face tenants and fellow play-off hopefuls OJM Black Country (ko 7.45pm) in a vitally important game. With a victory, the Saltmen will occupy a play off place at Bilston Town's expense.
