Andy Crowther's Droitwich Spa FC produced another excellent team display at a rainy New Mill Lane to make it five straight wins in all competitions.
Just one point and one place separated the two sides going in to the confrontation, and Droitwich drew level on points with OJM Black Country, who occupy the last play-off position whilst keeping the pressure on Bilston Town above them, moreover extending the difference to 4 points distance ahead of hosts Coton Green.
It was the home side who had the better of the opening exchanges, and the Green Army could have been two goals to the good inside 15 minutes when first Reinaldo Forbes, then top scorer Matt Gardner produced weak efforts when presented with excellent opportunities.
Those early missed chances seemed to affect the hosts, who rarely seriously threatened Matt Oliver's goal from that point onwards, and played plenty of mis-placed passes too.
The Saltmen eventually got a foothold of the game, however 20 minutes had passed before Lemon's effort flashed just wide of Lewis Landers's post. Scott Braiden Smith then saw a header fly over the bar and Jack Brighton also struck wide of the mark.
Captain James Lemon then produced a goal of the season contender just before the half hour mark, as he watched the ball come down, the Spa striker hit a powerful and dipping volley from 20-yards out that took everyone by surprise, not least Landers, who barely moved as the ball dipped under his cross-bar and in.
The Spa striker then saw an effort scrambled off the line with many of the numerous Spa faithful present certain that the ball had crossed the line.
However it was 0-2 on 40 minutes after a good combination between Brighton and Perry Moss down the right hand side saw the latter pick out Connor Collins un-marked just 6-yards out, who headed in to Landers' bottom corner and gave Droitwich a deserved 2-goal lead going in to the break.
Spa continued their good work in to the early stages of the second half as well, and Lemon hit the woodwork before seeing another effort scrambled off the line early on.
From the following set piece, the ball fell to Alex Dugmore who smashed a close range drive in to the back of the net.
The weather quickly deteriorated, as did the game which both sides tried their best to play on a sodden surface. This was an ideal scenario for Droitwich who defended their lines expertly without forcing an attack.
Coton's only chance of note fell to Gardner who fired wide from an angle, and the Saltmen returned to Worcestershire with all three points.
