The Saltmen earned a 3rd consecutive win, and 2nd consecutive clean sheet in as many days with an impressive 2-0 victory over Coventry Copsewood at Kingys.
The 285 in attendance were treated to an excellent first half display from Spa, arguably their best of the season so far, as the hosts dominated the first 45 minutes.
Perry Moss came closest to opening the scoring on 8 minutes when his low drive rattled the foot Nathan Pearce's post, and Spa didn't have to wait long to open the scoring as a determined forward run from Captain James Lemon found Haydn Morris down the lefr. His deep cross found the head of top scorer Connor Collins who made no mistake from close range on 18 minutes.
Just 5 minutes later, Spa extended the lead, when, under pressure from Alex Dugmore, a Copsewood defender headed in to his own net.
Spa continued their dominance and could have extended their lead, were it no for three fine saves from Pearce who denied Morris, Lemon and Collins respectively.
The visitors almost pulled one back when Danny Lole pounced on a loose ball and tried hiis luck from 30-yards. Oliver back peddled and did well to tip the dipping effort over the cross-bar,to ensure Droitwich went into the break 2-0 ahead.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with Copsewood guilty of missing several guilt-edged chances, whilst Spa sat back and soaked up the pressure.
Brad Taylor hit the bar early on, then Oliver saved well from Charlie Gordon's free kick and Ben Atkins's header went just the wrong side of the post in the opening 20 minutes of the 2nd period.
The visitors huffed and puffed but struggled to break down Spa's rearguard, their final chance to get what would have been a deserved goal back fell to substitute Harvey Wells, whose effort wildly missed the target following a goalmouth scramble.
A hard earned victory for Droitwich, which puts them two points clear at the top of the table at this early stage of the season.
Droitwich have no game on Saturday, but are back at "Kingys" on Tuesday 6th September, when high-flying Bilston Town are our visitors (ko 7.45pm).
Your exceptional support would, as ever, be greatly appreciated!
