The Saltmen put in a good performance to get the better of Stapenhill on Saturday at "Kingys", as top scorer Connor Collins's strike fired Spa to the top of the MFL Division 1 table, on his return from injury.
It was a cagey start to the game with the Saltmen looking nervous, and Spa were caught out several times by some neat Stapenhill through balls, however Alex Dugmore was in fine form to track back and snuff out the threat.
It was the visitors who came closest to taking the lead in the opening stages, as a couple of dangerous crosses flashed across the face of goal, but luckily for Spa just evaded the heads of on-rushing Swans players.
The half was disrupted due to injuries to Stapenhill's Connor Richins and Jacob Yeomans, and for Spa both Ollie Thompson and Callum Green picked up knocks, with the former being substituted at the break.
Slowly but surely Droitwich found their rhythm as James Lemon was twice denied, whilst efforts from Green, Thompson and Connor Collins all missed the target.
Alex Dugmore almost broke the deadlock, but his powerful header was well cleared off the line by Lewis Campbell, and the first half ended goal-less.
The Saltmen wasted no time in the second period, and after a lively start, Connor Collins scored what proved to be the match-winner on 48 minutes.
James Lemon's chipped cross from the left found Collins on the penalty spot, and he had the time to chest the ball down, turn, and fire a precise half volley in to the near corner.
Spa continued to press forward, having the better of the second half, and could have extended their lead through Lemon, who was denied by Paul Hollis in the Stapenhill goal. More half chances came and went, but the score-line remained unchanged.
If Droitwich's defence looked shaky in the first half, in the second period they were a lot more assured, with the Swans' best chance falling late on to Sam Mountain, who couldn't capitalise when well positioned.
Spa made it 5 wins from the opening 6 games after a close, yet deserved 1-0 victory.
