Spa victorious in hard fought contest

The Saltmen ran out 2-1 winners in an extremely testing encounter at a strong Sikh Hunters on Saturday to register a 9th straight win, and extend an unbeaten run to 20 matches.

The hosts were the better of the 2 sides for the majority of the first half, as the Saltmen struggled to get any form of momentum on a difficult surface.
There were plenty of misplaced passes and Hunters took the lead on 20 minutes courtesy of a wonderful strike by Chris Brown.
From 25 yards out, the midfielder unleashed a low drive that hit the inside of the post and went in, giving Matt Oliver no chance.

Spa could have replied immediately as Jack Brighton and Connor Baker came close, and as the home 'keeper saved Molloy's low drive, the rebound just evaded the onrushing Haydn Morris.

However, Hunters could have been home and dry by half time as two excellent opportunities when through one-on-one where spurned due to wasteful finishing.

Droitwich ensured that the hosts were made to rue those misses, as Connor Baker scored his 4th goal in 2 games, following on from Wednesday's hat-trick, as he got on the end of a deep cross jusst before half time.

Both of these sides have had a busy April, this being Droitwich's 10th game of the month, and Hunters's 11th game, so it was no surprise that tiredness set in during the second half.
The Saltmen started the second half as they ended the first, and defender Alex Dugmore was on the score sheet yet again for his 11th of the season as his powerful header across goal nestled in to the bottom corner from Molloy's cross.

Droitwich looked alot more organised in the second period as they limited an increasingly tired looking Hunters side to minimal opportunities.
At the other end, Lemon, Baker and substitute Tom Smith could have further extended the lead for the visitors, but thw scoreline remained at 1-2 for an important and very hard-fought victory, to round off Spa's away campaign and a busy April.
Just two more fixtures remain, both at Walshes Meadow, Stourport.
On Monday we entertain bottom of the table Allscott Heath (ko 3pm), and on Wednesday we face tpp of the table Gornal Athletic (ko 7.45pm).
With two victories, Droitwich would go top of the table for the first time since September.
