Droitwich triumphed against Step Four side Sporting Club Inkberrow in the first round of the Worcestershire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
The Saltmen got off the mark quickly, as Perry Moss chased the ball down and got there ahead of Nicholls to roll the ball into the net in the 2nd minute.
Inkberrow didn’t let this faze them, as almost instantly after the goal, Leo Brown saw his shot blocked – and Hewitt sent a flying volley straight at Rogerson.
James Lemon returned to the side for this game, and in the 15th minute he narrowly sent the ball the wrong side of the post from a chip.
The first half was slow following this attempt, with a lot of box to box moves but a lack of pressure on both goalkeepers.
This notion held strong until the 45th minute, where Berrow had their best chance of the game so far – with Benson heading just over the bar. 1-0 was the closing score of the first half, and the second half started slowly.
The 62nd minute was where the half opened up, where a multitude of Spa attacks forced Nicholls in to some strong saves.
Despite his best efforts, he was unable to stop Perry Moss getting his brace in the 65th minute. Binner’s cross flew over the head of Lemon – but Moss was there to send a sublime chip into the top corner of the net to double Droitwich’s lead and get his 4th in his last 3 appearances.
The game was relatively quiet until the 75 minute mark when things started to get tetchy.
Inkberrow's Samson Hewitt saw a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Nathan Binner, seeing the visitors down to 10 men.
Inkberrow fought hard to bring themselves in with a chance of a result in the later stages of the game, but were unable to break the Spa defence or pass Rogerson in goal – who held excellently every ball that came his way.
A crowd of 221 witnessed the game, which ended 2-0.
This result sees Spa into the next round of the Cup, where the club has been as far as the semi final.
On Saturday, the Saltmen are back in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division looking to hold onto their top spot position in the table with a trip to Cinderford Town (ko 3pm).
