Droitwich Spa put in a sterling performance to progress to the Quarter Finals of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with an emphatic 7-1 victory at Bewdley Town.
Despite the 17 places and 1 Division separating the two sides, Spa started strongly and never let up to claim another Premier Division scalp this season, in the clubs' debut in the competition.
Jack Davies signalled the Saltmen's intent after just two minutes when his dipping effort from range cannoned back off the foot of the post, and just 4 minutes later, Luke Molloy's 20-yard drive gave Spa the lead when his powerful strike went in off the under-side of the cross-bar, giving Joe Stockton no chance.
Bewdley pressed for a reply and enjoyed their best spell of the game, as efforts from Jordan Graham and Stanford Stewart flashed wide of Oliver's goal.
Droitwich got back in control and soon extended the lead to 2-0 when after James Lemon's flick on from Brighton's corner, Haydn Morris found himself unmarked from 2-yards out to head in.
Morris got his 2nd of the game just 5-minutes later for Spa's third as a lovely move across to the left-hand side found the wide-man, who checked back inside before firing in a fine low drive which beat Stockton at his near post.
Droitwich netted their 3rd in a 10-minute spell to effectively end the game before half time when James Lemon was brought down in the area by the onrushing Stockton, and Molloy made no mistake from the spot to give Spa a deserved 4-0 lead going in to the break.
It was soon 5-0 to the visitors after the restart when Lemon headed in from close range, and Spa's Captain scored his 200th goal for the club 10 minutes later with another fine header back across goal to make it 6-0.
Matt Oliver made some fine stops to prevent Bewdley replying sooner, denying Stewart, Dudley-Toole and Max Morris, but Spa further added to the score-line after a great exchange between Perry Moss & Luke Molloy allowed Jack Brighton to jink through and finish well for a 7-0 lead.
Bewdley, who made 5 changes to Saturday's defeat at Lye Town, did manage a reply when a smart piece of control and shot on the turn from Dexter Dudley-Toole beat Oliver in the final minutes, but Droitwich stunned everyone with a comfortable 7-1 victory.
The Quarter Final will be played on Tuesday 10th January, where Pershore Town will be our visitors at Kingy's.
Our next game is at Kingy's on Saturday (ko 3pm) when we entertain Paget Rangers in the MFL Division 1.
