Spa struggle through to next round

A brace from Club Captain James Lemon either side of Jack Davies's 2nd half strike was enough to see the Saltmen through to the next round of the League Cup, overcoming a stubborn Sikh Hunters.

It was the visitors who took the lead within the opening exchanges, as Chris Brown would have found it harder to miss from close range with just 3 minutes on the clock.

It was a scrappy game throughout, with little between the two sides, and chances were at a premium as the teams cancelled each other out.

In the first half particularly, Spa put together some neat passing moves, but the final ball was lacking, or finishing was generally off target. Scott Braiden-Smith, Callum Green, Jack Davies and James Lemon could have added their names to the score-sheet, but Droitwich did equalize just after the half-hour mark, which was indeed worth the wait - a spectacular finish on the volley from Captain Lemon after good work down the left hand side.

The teams went in to the break all square, and despite the visitors coming out of the blocks quicker, it was Droitwich that got their noses in front early in the second half courtesy of Jack Davies.

There was little to report on in the second half, but Hunters deservedly equalized mid-way through the half, when Taimoor Hassan side footed home off the inside of the far post after some neat build-up play and slack defending.
The visitors will feel aggrieved to have not been awarded a penalty soon after as Scott Braiden-Smith was rounded and looked to have brought down his opponent, but the referee waived play on.
The visitors kept on pressing, but Droitwich scored the winning goal 15 minutes from time, and it was James Lemon on the mark again to finish clinically from close range to send Spa in to the next round of the League Cup.

With no fixture next Saturday, Droitwich's next game comes a week on Wednesday, when we host Bromyard Town at Walshes Meadow (ko 7.45pm), for a quick return of the 'shires derby!
We hope to see you all there!
