Droitwich Spa Manager Quentin Townsend spoke to dsfc.news about yesterday's emphatic late draw at higher-level Hanley Town;
"Well, where do we start with that FA Cup game yesterday?
That was a true FA Cup tie in every sense of the word. It had a little bit of everything — late drama, goals, excitement, end-to-end action and, thankfully, a huge amount of character from our lads.
From my perspective, to come from behind three separate times in the game, when at certain points we could quite easily have looked dead and buried, shows the resilience and belief within this group. To then equalise in the 96th minute through a penalty was incredibly pleasing.
For the first 25 minutes, though, I thought we were really slow out of the traps. We gave them far too many opportunities and, if we’re being honest, they could probably have been out of sight during that opening period. We rode our luck at times, and thankfully they only managed to score once.
As the game progressed, however, I thought we gradually grew into it. We started to compete much better, and after our conversation at half-time about the importance of winning second balls, I thought we were much more aggressive and effective in that area.
To score three goals in a game for the first time this season is also a massive positive. Hopefully that will breed confidence within the lads, because we know we’ve got goals in this group.
Obviously, it doesn’t feel quite like a win because we’ve drawn the game, but to bring them back to Kingy’s on Tuesday night for the replay is a huge positive.
We’re still in the hat, we’re in the draw tomorrow morning, and that’s exactly where we want to be.
Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who travelled and supported us yesterday. Your backing made a difference, and we’ll need you again on Tuesday night.
Get yourselves down to Kingy’s. Make some noise. You can make a massive difference to us.
We’ll see you all there."
