Not for the first time this season, Spa lived to rue missed chances, in the second half particularly, as home 'keeper Josh Sawyer produced heroics to keep his side in the game.

The first half was uneventful, between two sides low on confidence and goalmouth action was at a premium.

Bailey Bow had to be replaced on 20 minutes through injury, to be replaced by Cory Rudd.
Droitwich then had a good spell of possession but failed to create any good chances.

George Dalton was lively down the left flank, with numerous incursions, but all too often his delivery was swept up by the home defence.
Perry Moss had Spa's best chance of the half when he missed the target from an angle.

Town managed to have more efforts at goal through Finn Hopkins and most notably Ed Taylor, who had the best chances of the half; a shot from distance that went narrowly over the cross-bar, and he should have given Bassett the lead as Spa gave the ball away, but with just Rogerson to beat, he shot straight at the Droitwich 'keeper.

Nathan Binner stepped up to take a free kick in a promising position for Droitwich, but he shot way off target, and that summed up the half.

Droitwich, likely after a few stern words at half time, came out a changed side in the second half, and dominated the game.

The first chance fell to James Lemon, but 10-yards out, his shot went the wrong side of the post.
Sam Hurdman replaced Binner and almost made an instant impact when he drew Sawyer into his first meaningful save with a drive at the near post.
Sawyer came to the rescue soon after, first saving well Rudd's drive, then he clawed Perry Moss's corner off the goal line.
He then saved well from Hurdman once again as Spa pressed to open the scoring.

More chances followed; Archie Thurston with a strong header was again well saved, and Moss then fired a strike from the edge of the box off target.

Bassett were rarely a threat, but Fin Hopkins found himself in a good position but shot wide.

Rogerson was then called into action for the first time in the half; another slip at the back allowed Taylor in but the Spa stopper saved well with his legs.

Spa took the game back under control and created three big chances. The first for substitute Zatorski, who volleyed wide with his first touch, then Thurston was sent through one-on-one, but Sawyer saved well to keep it at 0-0.
Moss then spurned just as good a chance, but off balance fired well off target from close range.
Sam Hurdman then headed over the bar from a deep cross on 90 minutes.

Bassett had an excellent chance themselves in injury time, when a corner to the back post was headed wide, but moments later a hoof upfield saw Carey & Rogerson go for the same ball, they only succeeded in upending each other, and substitute Freddie Wyatt had the simple task of rolling the loose ball into an empty net to give Bassett all three points.
Spa were wasteful in front of goal, but when your luck is out, your luck is out!

The Saltmen have the chance to bounce back on Tuesday night at Kingy's (ko 7.45pm) against another side at the wrong end of the table in Cribbs. The Bristol side managed their first win of the season on Saturday in a local derby victory over Hallen.
