Droitwich Spa couldn't reproduce their FA Cup heroics from the previous week, as they were dumped out of the Isuzu FA Vase at the first hurdle by Midland Football League Division 1 side Coventry Copsewood.
The Saltmen started the game on the front foot, and within the first 10 minutes Alex Dugmore, Perry Moss and Archie Thurston all had efforts at goal, however the visitors stemmed the tide and whilst Droitwich controlled possession to pin Copsewood back for the majority of the first half, they couldn't find a breakthrough despite some tidy build up play.
George Dalton then forced Reiss Jeavons into a save from a low cross just after half an hour, the 'keepers strong hand just pushing the ball out of Thurston's path.
Moments later, James Lemon couldn't make contact with a deep cross to steer into goal whilst Thurston headed on to the crossbar after good work from Perry Moss.
Just before the break Thurston missed an overhead kick, the ball fell to Alex Dugmore who was brought down in the area, but the referee waved away the protests and the first half ended goal-less.
Droitwich continued to press for an opener in the early stages of the second half; Dugmore heading over the bar, then James Lemon forced Jeavons into a good save.
On 65 minutes, Copsewood had their first attempt of the game when Adeniyi made a strong run forward but hit his shot into the side netting.
Spa went back up the other end and Bailey Bow forced another smart stop from Jeavons.
George Dalton spurned a couple of big chances for Spa when well positioned, the Copsewood's Alex Barnett hit the woodwork with a shot from distance being the last meaningful action of the game.
The tie went to penalties, and only Spa substitute Haydn Morris converted his spot kick, as man-of-the-match Jeavons made three saves to deny Lemon, Moss and Dalton, and Copsewood went through 2-1 on penalties.
Droitwich will want to forget their Vase defeat quickly, and they now turn their attentions to an Emirates FA Cup tie at Hanley Town on Saturday (ko 3pm).
