Westfields 1-5 Droitwich Spa

By Millie Lambert

Droitwich mathematically ecured a home tie in the Semi-Finals of the Play-offs after an emphatic 5-1 win at Westfields on Tuesday night, their final away game of the regular season.

The game started slowly with Droitwich having most of the possession, but unable to create any decent chances in front of the goal.

The first real chance was halfway through the first period when James Baldwin pounced on a mis-placed pass but his shot from range rattled the crossbar.

The first goal came in the 34th minute when a Charlie Tilley free kick was sent into the box and Alex Dugmore set up Baldwin to strike from close range.
A deflection from a 'Fields defender meant ‘keeper, Ryan Smallwood, could not keep the ball out of the net.

Just a minute later the second goal was scored for The Spa. Josh Hurdman was bought down in the area and Ben Tilbury fired the ball into the bottom left corner from the penalty spot meaning Droitwich went into the break two goals up.

The second half started the same way the first half ended, and it wasn’t long before The Saltmen had the ball in the back of the net for the third time.
It came in the 50th minute as Baldwin's low cross across the face of goal found Alex Dugmore who smashed it into the goal. This goal marked Dugmore’s 100th goal for the club.

Five minutes after, the fourth goal was scored and this time it was Will Dallaway getting his name on the scoresheet. Another low cross, this time from Josh Hurdman found Dallaway at the back post who tapped it into the goal.

In the 72nd minute, Dugmore scored his second of the night and the teams fifth.
A stunning Jack Brighton cross on the right found the Spa striker in the box, who placed the ball into the back of the net.

Westfields managed to get a goal back in the 82nd minute through a Raiyan Ahmed shot from outside the box which found the bottom left corner denying Droitwich a clean sheet.
In the closing stages Spa were awarded another penalty as Perry Moss was bought down in the box.
However, this time Ryan Smallwood saved the shot from Dugmore and denied him his hatrick.

The game also marked Nathan Binner’s 100 appearance for the club as he came on as a substitute.

Droitwich are back at home for their final match of the regular season against Mangotsfield United on Saturday (KO 3pm).

The results on the final day will determine The Saltmen's adversary in the playoffs.
