Droitwich Spa 3-5 Hereford Pegasus

By Caitlin Valle

A partizan crowd of 267 witnessed a frustrating 3-5 defeat at the hands of Hereford Pegasus at Kingy’s this Easter Monday.

It was Spa however who ran the early minutes, this press personified by Will Dallaway’s 8th minute dribble and attempt, unlucky not to score.

Hereford had a few early attempts, and Droitwich fought back in the 16th minute with Perry Moss’ shot going just wide.

However, it was Pegasus who broke the deadlock in the 18th minute during a goalmouth scramble, with Jordan Williamson getting the pivotal touch that made the game 0-1.

Hereford had shouts for a penalty in the 22nd minute that were waved away by the referee - but this proved inconsequential as in the 24th minute, Williamson capitalised with a close range shot following an impressive long throw in from Pannier that evaded all of the Spa defenders to make it 0-2.

It took less than two minutes for Pegasus to score again, as Ben Tilbury deflected the ball into the Spa net in the 25th minute, putting the game at 0-3 before the half an hour mark.

It proved to be a very busy five minutes, as the 27th minute saw the Saltmen pull one back, with Reiss Taylor- Randle making the game 1-3 with a close range finish.

The rest of the first half saw Droitwich fight relentlessly to shrink the deficit, with attempts from Lemon and Tilley in the 42nd and 43rd minute. The best chance of the rest of the first half came in the 43rd minute, with an attempt from Ben Tilbury cleared off of the line.

The second half began how the first closed, with Droitwich continuing to try and salvage the game. Spa had the ball in the back of the net in the 47th minute, but the linesman ruled it offside despite there being a Pegasus player on the goal line.

One more goal was scraped back in the 58th minute by substitute Alex Dugmore, who received a fine through ball from Rudd - putting the game at 2-3.
The Saltmen’s dominance continued, with a volley from Tilley going over the bar in the 60th minute.
Although, said dominance seemed to falter following a lengthy stoppage in play as an unseemly four Hereford players go down almost in unison.

Pegasus picked up from here, as they slotted home their fourth of the afternoon in the 72nd minute as Williamson chipped the oncoming Stockton to make the game 2-4 for his hat-trick. The striker returned for his fourth three minutes later, beating Stockton following a ball over the top, leaving the score-line at 2-5.

Attempts from Rudd and the returning Josh Hurdman both missed the face of goal, but Spa were opted one final opportunity in the dying embers of the game, as a penalty was awarded following a handball - a chance that was converted by Ben Tilbury for his 10th goal of the season. This goal was the last of the game, with the final whistle blown at 3-5.

Droitwich will have to bounce back quickly to cement a play-off spot, but face another difficult task, with a local derby at 2nd placed Worcester Raiders on Saturday (ko 3pm), a visit to lowly Westfields next Tuesday (ko 7.45pm) before concluding the season at Kingy's against Mangotsfield United on Saturday 18th April (ko 3pm).
