Longlevens 0-1 Droitwich Spa

By Millie Lambert
Droitwich bounced back from a run of disappointing results with a 1-0 win at Longlevens on Saturday afternoon.

A perfect opportunity for an early goal came within the first two minutes for Longlevens as Jack Beardsell just put his header wide of the goal.

The Saltmen did well to control the game and managed possession well whilst also creating several chances.

With their good play came a well worked goal; It came from a Nathan Binner pass through to Charlie Tilley in the box whose close-range shot hit the back of the net.

James Baldwin created another good chance when he dribbled past several defenders but had his shot saved, and James Lemon was unable to keep the rebound under control and his shot went wide.

The Spa dominated the rest of the half but were unable to add any more goals.

The second half started in the same way with The Saltmen passing the ball nicely, but Longlevens’ defence did well to manage the threat.

The last twenty minutes were nervy for The Spa fans whe pressure came from Longlevens as they created better chances in a bid to take something from the game.

Lemon cleared the ball of the line as a header from a Longlevens corner was goal-bound, then Joe Stockton also played an integral role in winning all three points and keeping a clean sheet as he made two excellent saves in the space of a minute, one from Cameron Williams' free-kick and another from a close-range shot from Beardsell.

The Saltmen were able to keep calm under pressure and win the game 1-0.
The game also saw the return of Josh Hurdman who came on as a substitute after a two month break due to injury.

The win pushes Droitwich to 2nd in the league on 67 points.

It’s a quick turnaround for Andy Crowther's men and they are back in action on Bank Holiday Monday, at home against Hereford Pegasus (KO 3pm).
