Droitwich Spa 2-2 Lydney Town

By Caitlin Valle
A 2-2 draw was the end result of Droitwich’s Tuesday night game against Lydney Town.

The crowd of 138 witnessed Spa have an early push, but it was Town’s Olatejo who had the first chance of the game, missing from close range.

The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute, as Jordi Sheen put away a picturesque overhead kick to make the game 0-1.

Cory Rudd had the Saltmen’s first chance in the 16th minute - but his shot was just wide of the post.
Rudd came back in the 21st minute, forcing an impressive save from Causon.

The chances were all going to Spa, with close efforts from Jay Sauntson who had his 22nd minute attempt cleared off the line, Alex Dugmore, and Charlie Tilley also caused havoc for the Lydney defence.

A big chance in the 43rd minute was scuffed by Charlie Tilley on the volley and the first half closed 0-1, despite a multitude of efforts from Droitwich.

The second half started quieter, until the 56th minute where James Baldwin’s cross shot hybrid slipped through the hands of Causon to bring the game level at 1-1.

58th minute and 59th minute chances from Dugmore and Levy were unable to further the score line.

The next 20 minutes were end to end, but neither Spa nor Lydney really tested the opposing goalkeeper.

In the 80th minute, a controversial penalty was awarded as Levy was accused of bringing down Olatejo - despite multiple claims, including from the linesman, that Levy got the ball.

Olatejo put away the penalty, going straight down the middle to make the game 1-2.

Spa equalised in the 83rd minute, with Dugmore heading home to bring the game equal once more.

The rest of the game, including injury time, was full of chances for both teams - but neither were able to come out with all three points, as the final whistle blew at 2-2.

Droitwich are back in action on Sunday 29th of March, in the Challenge Cup Final against Hereford Pegasus ,at the KGD Stadium in Hereford, (ko 4:30PM).
