Corsham Town 3-3 Droitwich Spa

Droitwich Spa FC fought back to claim a point in a 6-goal thriller at form side Corsham Town on Saturday in a 6-goal thriller.

The hosts had registered 6 straight wins to firmly position themselves in the play-off places before Saturday's game, and with a win could have leap-frogged Droitwich into 2nd place, and they started in the possible way as with just 3 minutes in the clock Town broke down the left where a pinpoint cross found Pele Kouisseoue who turned home from close range and break the deadlock early on.

Droitwich grew into the game and registered their first effort on 12 minutes as James Baldwin was sent through on goal by Sam Hurdman's pass, but with just Ryan Clarke to beat in the Corsham goal, he fired straight at the home 'keeper.
Four minutes later the home stopper was called into action once more as he saved James Lemon's shot on the turn.

Just before the half hour mark Corsham's Chris Lines saw a fine strike into the bottom corner chalked off for offside, and from the next move Joe Stockton had to be alert to stop the same player.

Barely two minutes later Town's Lewis Gilchrist's shot from range crept inside the near post, and although Stockton got a hand to it, he couldn't stop Corsham from taking a 2-0 lead.

Droitwich could feel hard done by to find themselves two goals down in an even half, and Alex Dugmore had the last chance of the first period when he sent a header wide of the post.

Within 5 minutes of the restart, Droitwich had a goal back when Jack Brighton's testing ball into the box was met by a sliding David Thompson who was unfortunate to guide the ball past Clarke and into his own net.

Just two minutes later Dugmore raced through on goal and had a coming together with the onrushing Clarke that left Spa's leading scorer needing lengthy medical treatment before being substituted.

The Saltmen almost drew level on 67 minutes, but Clarke was there to save Baldwin's effort before Josh Hurdman hit the post from the rebound.

Somewhat against the run of play and out of nowhere, Gilchrist scored his brace with a great effort from distance that went over Stockton and dipped under the cross-bar for 3-1 with 12 minutes remaining.

The two goal advantage was short lived, as a deep cross from the right caused confusion in the home defence, and a ricochet fell to James Lemon just yards out who had the easy task of prodding in to goal.

Joe Stockton denied Town's top scorer Nick McCootie, then it was hearts in mouths time for Spa as Town were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area, but the effort was off target.

Corsham would live to rue that miss, as four minutes into injury time, Jack Brighton's free kick was spilled by Clarke and Charlie Tilley raced into make it 3-3 to seal an unlikely comeback and send the travelling supporters into delirium to cap off an entertaining game between two sides rooted in the play-offs.

With both Roman Glass and 3rd placed Slimbridge defeated on Saturday, Droitwich closed the gap to top spot to one point, with Andy Crowther's men have two games in hand.

The Saltmen now have four consecutive home games, starting on Saturday 31st January (ko 3pm) against relegation threatened Cribbs.
