This Saturday will see the first ever meeting between Droitwich Spa and Malmesbury Victoria, at Kingy's, in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division (ko 3pm).
Despite playing in the Hellenic League since 2018, whilst Droitwich were promoted as Division 1 Champions in 2024-25, Vics were relegated to Division 1 having finished their Premier Division campaign in 19th position.
After just 1 season at Step 6, Malmesbury were promoted via the play-offs having beaten much-fancied Wantage Town (away) 2-4, then won the Final at Stonehouse Town (0-1) in front of over 700 supporters.
Vics have had a complicated start to 2026-27 season, where they sit in 19th position after 12 games. They have played just 4 away games so far, winning once and losing the other three.
Moreover their recent form is a cause for concern having registered just 1 victory in September and 6 defeats, conceding 20 goals over their last 7 games.
That victory was in fact in their last Away game; a 0-1 win at Fairford Town where Malmesbury also registered their first clean sheet of the season.
Their top scorer is Lewis Bexon-Shaw, who has found the net 10 times in 11 games while Kassa Anderson and Omaree Cox have both chipped in with 3 goals apiece.
Malmesbury have lost their last two games since the win at Fairford, going down to Pershore Town (3-4) and Devizes Town (0-2) at their Flying Monk ground.
Droitwich can once again take heart from their recent performances, and have lost just once in the last four outings.
The Saltmen put in a huge performance at 2nd placed Thornbury on Tuesday night, where having played for an hour with 10-men, brought a point back to Worcestershire for their efforts.
Alex Dugmore won the man of the match award and also scored Spa's goal; last season's top scorer bagging his 2nd of the season at Mundy Fields.
The two sides are separated in the table only by goal difference (Spa -1, Vics -9) and Droitwich have two games in hand.
Quentin Townsend's side will be looking at Saturday's fixture as a good opportunity to add maximum points to their tally to further climb the table and move away from the relegation zone.
Looking to the month ahead , Spa have a run of fixtures that sees them facing sides in and around the bottom places in Cribbs (Saturday 10th), Bradford Town (Saturday 17th) and Fairford Town (Saturday 24th).
Spa will be without the injured Rohan Levy, whilst Curtis Smith & George Dalton will undergo fitness tests ahead of the Saturday's game.
Haydn Morris & Nathan Binner are both unavailable, but Captain James Lemon returns having missed Tuesday's draw at Thornbury.
With International fixtures again this weekend, we hope to see another healthy crowd at Kingy's to cheer the lads on to what we hope will be a big three points.
