Tuesday 24 March, ko 7.45pm vs Lydney Town (H)

The Saltmen continue a busy period with four fixtures in just 10 days!

The second of these games comes on Tuesday evening (ko 7.45pm) against Lydney Town at Kingy's.

It is a hugely important game for both sides, but for different reasons.
Spa sit in 2nd place, 3 points behind leaders Slimbridge, whilst Lydney have recently slipped to the bottom of the table after a run of four straight defeats, with three of those defeats coming against their direct rivals to escape relegation.
Moreover, Town conceded 10 goals without scoring against Cribbs (5-0 & 0-3) and Hallen (0-2) in their last three outings.

With just 1 win in all competitions away from home (a 1-3 victory at Hallen back in November), Lydney have the worst away record, fewest goals scored and the leakiest defence in the Division, with 78 goals conceded and 33 scored. Just 13 of those goals have come away from their Sansom Park home in 16 outings.

The recent dip in form at just the wrong time saw Town part company with Manager Lee Smith after 16 months in charge. Richard Goodwin & Jordi Sheen have taken charge for the remainder of the season where the Gloucestershire side have 5 games remaining and sit 6 points adrift of safety.

In the only previous meeting between the clubs, Droitwich came away from Sansom Park with a 1-2 win, however it was an even contest where Lydney saw Matt Green sent off, and Dom Rogerson saved a second half penalty.

Green, a former professional who played for Birmingham, Grimsby, Cardiff, Newport and most famously Mansfield where he scored 80 goals over 3 spells at Field Mill as well as Morgan Ewing will be tough opponents for the Spa defence on Tuesday night, as Lydney gear up for the first of five cup finals to remain in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
With a new management team to impress and after a break of 10 days, the Town will no doubt go into this one with all guns blazing.

The Saltmen can't afford to underestimate their opponents if they aspire to take the automatic promotion battle right to the wire. Droitwich have a 7-point cushion on 6th placed Corsham Town just outside the play-offs, so Spa will want to extend that tomorrow night where they will go into the game as favourites.

Not least as Spa have lost just once in the last 7 games, and in the last two home games have claimed maximum points without conceding a goal in the last 7 days.

Droitwich will also have an eye on two more huge games in the next 7 days - Sunday's Cup Final at Hereford Pegasus, and next Tuesday's crunch match between the top two, as Andy Crowther's men travel to leaders Slimbridge.

Ben Tilbury, Josh Hurdman and the longer term injured Jack Davies and Dom Rogerson will all likely be out of contention for tomorrow's encounter, but the Spa Manager has numerous options both at the back and in midfield after the returns of Matt Jackson, Sam Hurdman, Will Dallaway, James Baldwin & Nathan Binner.

We hope to see another 200-plus crowd at Kingy's to cheer the Spa on to victory and to set us up nicely for the games ahead, where after Tuesday, we have three consecutive away games.
