Saturday 28 February, ko 3pm vs Cirencester Town (H)

It's a big game at Kingy's this coming Saturday (ko 3pm) as Cirencester Town visit Droitwich in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

The Saltmen currently sit 2nd, one point behind new leaders Worcester Raiders and both the race for automatic promotion and the play-off's is hotting up as we approach the last 10 games of the 2025-26 season.

Just 7 points separate the top five sides vying for the Championship and Andy Crowther's Droitwich Spa, at their first ever season in Step 5 football have done remarkably well to be sitting in 2nd at this stage of the season.

Cirencester, a staple at Step 4 and a big name in Non-League football, are sitting in 6th place currently, 3 points behind Corsham and just outside the play-off places, yet have played two games more.

James Mortimer-Jones's side had been on a fine run of form that lifted them from mid-table to play-off contenders, however a surprise home defeat against Wootton Bassett at the end of December signalled the start of some inconsistent form.

Without a win and with just 1 point from their last 3 games, the Centurions come into Saturday's encounter off the back of a galling home defeat against Worcester Raiders last Saturday, where having having equalised, the visitors had a man sent off and then won the game deep into injury time.

That result followed from a disappointing 0-2 home defeat against Pershore; The Plums' only win since December, and a 1-1 draw at Lydney.

Town's Away form is better than at the impressive Corinium Stadium, as Ciren have lost just four times all season on the road, conceding just 20 goals in 16 games.
Furthermore, amongst their ranks is one of the League's leading scorers in Harlie Price, who has netted 29 goals in 25 games in all competitions!

The former Malvern, Pershore and Brimscombe forward put Droitwich to the sword back in November, where he scored a hat-trick in Ciren's 5-1 victory.
Both Price and tricky wide-man Theo Jeremy caused no end of problems for Spa, as that day Cirencester missed a host of great chances, and Droitwich were 1-0 ahead at half time, but a second half capitulation saw Town turn it around emphatically (and deservedly) to win the contest 5-1!
Dom Rogerson suffered an injury to rub salt into the Droitwich wounds, and he is still side-lined now.

The Centurions recently swooped to make two new signings in Dan Hill and Ieuan Bailey from neighbours Fairford Town, and they debuted at the Corinium Stadium last Saturday against Raiders.

With the result of the previous meeting in mind, Andy Crowther's men will be cautious of the threat that their visitors pose going forward, however despite a break of three weeks without a game, the Saltmen triumphed in the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night (5-2) over Fairford Town, making it 3 games unbeaten, and will be full of confidence going into Saturday's encounter.

Droitwich have lost the least number of games in the Division (5 in 28 games) and have lost just twice at home in the League this campaign. Moreover, Spa have the 3rd best attack in the Division with 61 goals scored, behind Cirencester (63) and Roman Glass (67).

We should be in for an entertaining game on Saturday at Kingy's; it's Droitwich's only home game until the end of March, so it would be fantastic to see a bumper crowd for this one and we look forward to welcoming you all, included all the officials and supporters from Cirencester this Saturday afternoon.
