New Saltmen boss, Quentin Townsend

On Sunday, Droitwich Spa FC announced the appointment of Quentin Townsend as the clubs' new Manager, taking over from Andy Crowther who resigned last week after six years in charge.

49-year old Quentin brings with him a wealth of footballing experience; as a player, he spent 4 years at Wolverhampton Wanderers under former England Manager Graham Taylor before joining Hereford United in the old 3rd Division in 1996, where he spent two seasons and came up against sides like Fulham and Middlesbrough, when Fabrizio Ravanelli was at his prime!

After Hereford United lost their Football League status Townsend moved onto play for his hometown club Worcester City before spells at Stourbridge, Redditch United, Bromsgrove Rovers, Evesham United, Cinderford Town, Racing Club Warwick, Southam United, Pershore Town and Stourport Swifts.

He then progressed into management and his first role at Southam United in 2014-15 was a resounding success.
He guided The Saints to a 7th placed finish in the MFL Division 1 and two Cup Finals.
In his squad at the time were several familiar names at Droitwich; Matt Hunt, Matt Oliver, Max Crisp, Jack Brighton and Louis Bridges.

Midway through the following season, Townsend moved to Pershore Town, where he spent a further 3 years before switching to Stourport Swifts.

He had an excellent record at Walshes Meadow, where he managed for six seasons before departing in November 2024.

Swifts reached the FA Vase Quarter Final under his leadership, won the Worcestershire Senior Cup (having won at Kingy’s in the Semi Final) and realised their best League finishes in 20-years of 2nd, 4th and 7th, despite the strong and financially potent opposition in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

Townsend is looking forward to continuing the amazing work that Andy Crowther has done, and we wish him all the very best of luck at Kingy’s for the 2026-27 season and beyond.
