CHALLENGE CUP FINAL MATCH PREVIEW

CHALLENGE CUP FINAL MATCH PREVIEW

DSFC Admin27 Mar - 13:03

Sunday 29 March, ko 4.30pm vs Hereford Pegasus (A)

In just their second season in the competition, Droitwich Spa FC prepare for Sunday's Challenge Cup Final, to be held at the KGD Stadium against Hereford Pegasus, who also play their home games at the same stadium.

The Challenge Cup Final follows the Supplementary Challenge Cup Final, which will be played between Division 1 side Shortwood United & Newent Town.

The Saltmen have met Pegasus in competitive games twice before; most recently on the opening day of 25-26 season where Hereford won an enthralling game, 5-4, deep into injury time.
Previous to that, despite two levels between the sides at the time, Droitwich marked their debut in the FA Vase with a 3-2 extra time win at the KGD Stadium, causing a Vase upset at the same time.

This season, former Hereford, Yeovil & Forest Green player, now Peggy Manager Jamie Pitman's men made a flying start to the campaign as they lost just once in their first five games, however inconsistency has blighted them since September - where they went the whole month without a win.
Their recent form is similar, without a League win in March; their last victory coming in the Semi Final of the Challenge Cup with a 4-0 thumping of Worcester Raiders.
They've also defeated Highworth, Pershore & Bewdley Town on their way to the Final.

Jordan Williamson is the Red Men's top scorer with 26 goals in 39 appearances, with two of those goals coming against Droitwich in the opening day victory.
Harry Pitman has also chipped in with 13 goals, and Pegasus have recently signed Sam Griffiths from Wellington as well as Shay Sterry from Westfields to further strengthen their squad.

Droitwich are unbeaten in their last 3 games and have lost just once in their last 8 outings.

Spa have passed FC Stratford, Slimbridge and Fairford Town on the way to the Final, whilst receiving a walkover victory in the Quarter Finals due to Tuffley fielding an ineligible player.

Andy Crowther will be without Jack Davies, Dom Rogerson & Josh Hurdman due to injury, and Ben Tilbury will have to be assessed before the game as he took a knock in the win over Cirencester a couple of weeks ago.
Another head-ache for the Spa boss is Tuesday night's crunch League game at Slimbridge; Spa travel to the League leaders in need of a win if they want to keep their title hopes alive so it will be interesting to see how the Saltmen approach these two fixtures in just three days!

Droitwich will be roared on by a large travelling support with a full supporters coach, plus many more travelling by other means to cheer the team on.

We look forward to seeing you all there and wish you a safe journey down.
