Saltmen's home league duck finally broken

Droitwich Spa finally stemmed their woeful home form in the league with a hard fought 2-1 win over Moors Academy.

The hosts looked the brighter side from the off, with half chances falling to Lemon and Seabourne in the early exchanges, but the visitors broke the deadlock thanks to some sloppy defending - Nhundu given the time and space to cut inside and fire home powerfully passed Oliver on 10 minutes.

The Saltmen failed to get into their stride for the majority of the first period as the visitors enjoyed alot of the ball - Matt Oliver had to be alert to deny Price, Mullally and Nhundu.

However, somewhat against the run of play, a cross was well controlled by James Lemon which teed Seabourne up perfectly to strike an efforts into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

From that moment on, Moors looked dejected and Droitwich more composed on the ball - Haydn Morris raced clear of the Moors' back-line only to fire his effort directly at Ntiki in the away goal, Seabourne headed over and another effort was fired wired.

On the stroke of half time, the hosts got their noses in front - a hopeful cross-field ball from Seabourne was mis-judged by Chisholm - his error seized upon by Bradley Burgess who made no mistake in firing past Ntiki to give Spa the lead.

The second half was a different story - Droitwich dominant for large periods and Moors rarely threatened as they tired as the game went on. A series of corners saw efforts from Hunt and Seabourne well saved by Ntiki, and a dipping corner from Burgess was cleared off the line by McNally.

Lemon, Seabourne, Burgess and substitute Dan Cottrill could not capitalise on their chances as the Saltmen should have been home and dry long before the end, but it turned out to be a nervy end as Moors ramped up the pressure in the final 10 minutes.

Spa defended well and protected Oliver's goal, but the stopper had to be on top form to tip a rasping effort by Mullally from all of 25 yards over the bar, and in the end the Saltmen deserved the win - their first win in the league at Walshes Meadow, and second straight victory to set up a happy Christmas break for Mark Owen, Wayne Oliver & Chris Hunt before the next game at Northfield Town on Saturday 30th December (ko 2pm).
