Dominant Droitwich stumble over the line

Despite dominating large parts of this game, the Saltmen made hard work of despatching out of form and under-strength Barnt Green Spartak - at the same time breaking the visitors' excellent record at KGPF of no defeats in the last 6 visits.

In cold and blustery conditions, Spa started the stronger, but some stubborn defending through the majority of the first half from Spartak left clear cut chances at a premium.

Bridges, Crisp, Seabourne and Morris all had decent half chances but could not get their shots away and stand-in visiting 'keeper Colin Tomlinson didn't have too much to trouble him.

Barnt Green took the lead just before the half hour mark. A decent cross from the right hand side by Prescod eventually fell to Nathan Stoute, and with no home defender looking interested in making a challenge, the midfield man poked the ball home from close range at the second attempt.

Droitwich kept on knocking at the door but time and again the Lions denied them and/or the final ball let them down. At the other end, Spa 'keeper Matt Oliver had a relatively quiet afternoon as Droitwich enjoyed alot of possession but the guests went in 1-0 to the good at half time.

After a dressing down from Mark Owen & Wayne Oliver at the break, Spa came flying out of the blocks and equalised just two minute after the re-start.

Jack Allerton notched his fourth assist in as many starts as he provided the telling cross for Nick Seabourne to head home past the despairing Tomlinson, and just 2 minues later the game was turned on its head as a splendid cross from Brad Burgess again found Seabourne lurking at the back post to head home his and the Saltmen's second of the afternoon.

More chances came and went as again Spa enjoyed the lions share of possession - Seabourne could have had a hat-trick sooner after being put through by Crisp, but the 'keeper made a decent one-handed save to keep the score down. Bridges, Allerton and Hunt also could have got on the score-sheet had they of taken their chances.

The third goal did finally come - a hopeful ball up the line was latched on to by Seabourne who got in behind Spartak's defence and this time he made no mistake to fire home what should have been the decisive goal.

Barnt Green also managed some half chances - some excellent crosses into the box from their wide men unfortunately for them did not find the head of an attacker as Oliver watched on relatively untroubled.
Right back Darren Green was awarded a straight red card five minutes from time, although it was not obvious exactly what for.

Then on the stroke of full time another decent ball in from the right hand side found Nuradiin Ismail at the far post and he had the simple task of tapping home from close range to set up a nervy last few minutes.
They could have equalised too as Szikora gave away a cynical free kick halfway into his own half. However, a terrible delivery saved Spa as the ball eluded everyone at the near post and went out for a goal kick to send Droitwich 7 points clear at the top due to the inactivity of Alvis Sporting.
