Bridges first half strike gets Spa over the line

An excellent result for Droitwich over team of the month and bogey side Coton Green sees them extend their lead to four points at the top of the table.

The game was closely matched and Green started strongly without troubling Matt Oliver. After the first five minutes was played though, Spa got into their stride and controlled the first half even if they found it difficult to penetrate a well drilled home defence.

The chances began to come however - Max Crisp, Louis Bridges and Haydn Morris all saw scuffed shots routinely saved by the home 'keeper while Nick Seabourne and Matty Hunt headed off target after some delightful deliveried from Jamie Smith & Morris.

The warning signs were there for the hosts, and eventually the Saltmen made the break-through. The impressive Jack Allerton snuffed out a poor throw from the home 'keeper. He cut inside and took his time to pick out lethal Bridges with a low cross, who took a touch and fired a shot low into the bottom corner of the net.
Droitwich continued to control procedings as Bridges & Seabourne spurned half chances to add to the lead.
In between times, the linesman had to go off with an injury. With no 3rd official in place, a Coton Green official had the unenviable task of running the line for the remainder of the game!

The second half was rolls reversed however, and Coton Green saught to take the game to their opponents. Matt Oliver pulled off a smart save early on from Millan as the hosts controlled possession, which, for the most part, they were unable to turn into chances as Oliver was only called into action once more throughout the game as Droitwich defended resolutely, looking dangerous on the counter attack.
Haydn Morris did brilliantly sprinting three quarters of the length of the pitch, leaving 3 players in his wake, but his tame shot was straight at the 'keeper.
Jamie Smith's pin-point corner was then headed narrowly over by Seabourne and that was as close as Spa came, focusing more on keeping things tight at the back and breaking up the play.
This eventually paid off, keeping a clean sheet as the final whistle brought huge cheers from the visiting players, officials and supporters, however for the most part this competitive encounter had fizzled out into a midfield battle into the second half.
