Spa make hard work of despatching basement boys

Droitwich travelled to bottom-of-the-table Continental Star and the two sides' form couldn't be much different with the Saltmen suffering just 1 defeat in the previous 8 league games whilst the hosts had mustered just one point from the previous 10 league games, but for parts of this game you wouldn't have known this.

The opening 20 minutes were uneventful, providing few chances of note as both sides struggled to get to grips with a difficult playing surface. Neither goalkeeper was troubled despite Seabourne & Burgess's best efforts at the one end while Devonte Sterling & Pedro Douglas should have done better at the other for the hosts firing high & wide of the target.

The game soon burst into life however - a poor back pass from Nathan Waite let Seabourne in - he rounded the 'keeper but from a tight angle couldn't quite pull the ball back to the waiting Molloy in the centre.
Spa then finally got into their stride with both Burgess & Morris causing Star wing backs difficulties while the pace of Molloy & Seabourne saw them in behind the home back line frequently.

Droitwich took the lead just before the half hour mark. A sumptuous free kick from the half way line by Jamie Smith was met by league top scorer Nick Seabourne who rose highest to give Remi James in the home goal no chance.

More half chances came for Burgess, Seabourne & Molloy, but the Saltmen didn't have to wait long for a second. A poor clearance from James fell straight to Molloy. He brought the ball forward before feeding Burgess who turned his man expertly and finished well into the bottom corner to give Spa a comfortable half time lead.

Star came out an envigorated side, enjoying more possession for the first quarter of the second half, even if Spa did possess a threat on the counter attack.
A lifeline was thrown their way thanks to a contentious penalty given for a hand-ball against Captain Mike Seeley.
Mark Owen & Wayne Oliver gave a competitve 1st team debut to under 18 'keeper Elliott Hart and his first real action was picking the ball out of his net as the impressive Lemaar Rhule slotted home the resultant spot kick confidently.

Within 5 minutes the hosts pulled themselves level - good work down the right from Helal Albaarini as his low cross in to the danger area was tapped home from close range by Pedro Douglas.

Spa then woke up and took the game to their hosts - Seabourne came close with an audacious chip after another poor Williams clearance and then fired another effort wide. Luke Molloy still recovering from a previous injury made way for new siging Louis Bridges and his introduction seemed to spur the visitors on - the new man with some important contributions as Spa eventually went on to win the contest.

Good work from Morris cutting in from the left and he forced a foul on the edge of the area. Jamie Smith stepped up and his powerful strike found its way into the net courtesy of a deflection.

Elliott Hart then made a good save from Devonte Sterling low to his right to preent another Star equaliser.

The home side then changed their shape in a bid to get back into the game but consequently left alot of space at the back which was exploited by Droitwich to full effect.

Their final goal though was down to the hard work of Seabourne. He was set away by Bridges down the right, he held the ball up in the corner, found Morris ariving in the centre who then set Max Crisp up to step inside and lash an unstoppable shot in off the cross-bar from the edge of the box to give Spa a deserved 3 points against their battling hosts.
