Spa record biggest ever victory over shell-shocked Sutton

Droitwich Spa headed to the top of the MFL Division 2 table with the biggest win in their 32 year history in front of their lowest crowd of the season.

The Saltmen were on the front foot from the off with positive bursts forward from Morris & Gunter on either flank, however left the Sutton 'keeper relatively untroubled for the first 20 minutes. The visitors could even have taken the lead before Spa got their noses in front, but Nick Seabourne it was on 21 minutes who opened the scoring - a great run from Aston Gunter down the right - his cross was met by the head of Seabourne to put Droitwich in front.

Barely 2 minutes later, this time from the left hand side, Jamie Smith's pinpoint cross from deep again found Seabourne whose bullet header went in off the inside of the post.

Spa had the bit between their teeth at this point and Seabourne completed an 8 minute hat-trick when the determination of Crowther - wice wining 50-50 challenges sent the stand-in striker away. His heavy final touch looked to have taken the ball out of touch but he somehow got to it and slid the ball under the 'keepers legs from an impossible angle.

Sutton were shell-shocked and every time Droitwich had the ball you could sense danger.
Luke Molloy then got his first of the afternoon on 33 minutes-a brilliant solo effort rounding 3 players before tucking the ball low to the 'keepers right from close range.
Seabourne was far from finished - he rose highest to nod home Jamie Smith's corner to make it 5-0 with 10 minutes of the first half still to play.
Seabourne, Molloy and Smith all had chances go begging inbetween goals and at the oher end Sutton also threatened - forcing a smart save out of Matt Oliver.
Another home goal was soon to follow however - Matty Hunt scoring his 3rd of the season from yet another pinpoint delivery from Jamie Smith.
The Saltmen made it 7-0 before the break - United were caught short at the back when Seabourne's low cross-field ball sent Molloy racing away one on one with the 'keeper and he confidently rolled it out of the stoppers' reach into the bottom corner.
The second half was comparatively short on action with the visitors shoring things up at the back. The majority of the play was in their half though and Gunter, Molloy and Smith could have all netted before Seabourne notched his 5th and Spa's 8th of the game - a smart turn and finish.
Just 3 minutes later Smith's corner found the man in form for his 6th of the game and Spa's 9th when he rose highest at the near post.
More chances followed for Droitwich but the game peetered out for a while and Sutton got a consolation with their best move of the game and delicate back-heeled finish from front man Lewis.
The last word belonged to the hosts however - good work from Gunter again on the right hand side who moved the ball to Seabourne who then set up substitute Burgess coming in from the right - his powerful finish wa lashed into the top corner giving the 'keeper no chance.
It's now four straight wins for the Saltmen and an almost perfect performance to set them up nicely for last weeks' Count Cup Semi Final against local rivals and in form Worcester Raiders, ko 2pm next Saturday at KGPF. It's set to be a pre-Christmas cracker!
