Lemon brace edges Spa through tight encounter

James Lemon helped Droitwich to the 3 points-scoring for the first time in 6 games, also ending Barnt Green's unbeaten home record.

It was a game of two halves though and the scoreline slightly flattered the Saltmen.

They were on the back foot from the off, though, with the hosts making the better of the opening exchanges on a difficult surface.

Former Spa stalwart James Ward had the first opportuity - driving a shot from the edge of the box which pulled a decent save from Oliver in the Droitwich goal.

Barnt Green remained on top for the majority of the first half - leading scorer Benet Parchment had a couple of decent opportunities to give Spartak the lead and Ward, evidently eager to make his mark against his former club also had a couple of shots either charged down or not troubling Oliver.

The only chance for the Saltmen of note came from Molloy's header on the 30 minute mark, and as the half went on Droitwich grew in to the game.

In wasn't until a minute before the break though when Spa broke the deadlock.
A Barnt Green corner was headed clear by Crowther into Gunter's path. He released Molloy down the right wing whose perfectly weighted through ball found Lemon through on goal. He rounded Ali in the home goal and finished well from a tight angle to give Spa the lead against the run of play.

Barnt Green again started the 2nd half better, but a combination of poor finishing and disappointing final ball's as well as excellent defending by the make-shift back four of Drotwich tended to nulify the home side's threat.

Droitwich doubled their lead thanks to a superb cross from Seabourne ten minutes in to the 2nd period. Lemon got in front of his man, took a touch and fired home low past a dispairing Ali.

Neither side really took the game by the scruff of the neck from then on - Droitwich looked comfortably in control wihout seriously troubling the home goal. Jack Brighton was replaced just after the hour with another hamstring injury on his first game back and his replacement Josh Szikora's excellent defensive play set up Seabourne, whose super ball to the back post was narrowly missed by Molloy and the score remained 2-0 until the final whistle.
Droitwich climb up to 2nd in the table, keeping up their excellent form over Barnt Green - just one defeat in the last 6 meetings.
