Spa slump to defeat at Allard Way

Droitwich Spa saw a 9-game unbeaten run come to an end at Allard Way on Saturday as they were out-played by Coventry Copsewood.

The game couldn't have started any better for the Saltmen, as the in-form Roland Krol hit a first-time left footed volley into the bottom corner on Manual's net with just over 60 seconds on the clock, however that was as good as it got for Spa!

The hosts struck back with 7 minutes on the clock, as Jack Brighton was dispossessed on the half way by Bryan Kohreylon who fed Sam Ellis. The in-form Copsewood forward then outpaced the Spa defence and finish clinically passed Chadwick to even up the scores.

James Lemon then had a shot deflected, and Cory Rudd's header went narrowly over the bar from the resulting corner.

It was a first half with opportunities at both ends, and Perry Moss's slick footwork took him passed Danny Lole wide on the right hand side, but his low, driven cross evaded everyone during a dominant spell of Droitwich pressure.

Copsewood then took matters into their own hands, and Gomes headed over before Upton's drive from distance cleared the frame of the goal.

On half an hour the hosts took the lead for the first time in the game, as Brighton was caught out again and Kohreylon turned provider to scorer as he found the net with just Chadwick to beat.

Spa almost got back on level terms straight away when Moss's stinging drive went just off target, and then Oli Manual pulled off a fantastic save; his only serious work-out of the afternoon, when Moss found a way through the home defence latching on to Lemon's ball, but the home stopper denied him with a strong one-handed stop to keep the hosts in a 2-1 advantage at the break.

If during the first half the two adversaries traded blows, the second half was a different story, as the Saltmen looked rushed in possess and disorganised at the back, whilst Copsewood were exactly the opposite; assured with the ball, keeping their shape and well-organised in defence.
The partnership of Miles McIntyre and Captain Ben Atkins snuffed out all of Spa's aerial threat and long ball approach, and as the game wore on Droitwich ran out of ideas to break down a gritty Copsewood.

Chadwick, who had played the sweeper keeper role to great effect across the season, misjudged a through ball which Kohreylon arrived too first. As the Spa defence rushed back the striker was forced out wide, but with the goal gaping his effort went wide.

The injured Roland Krol was substituted for the not quite 100% fit Connor Collins midway through the half, and Perry Moss was sin-binned shortly after; a situation that the hosts took full advantage of.

Sam Ellis fired a warning sign when he once again raced through the Droitwich defence, but his effort cleared the bar with just Chadwick to beat, but he made no mistake just 4 minutes later when he met a low cross from the right which went in off the post to effectively give the hosts the points with 13 minutes remaining.

Droitwich were indebted to Chadwick who denied Kohreylon twice from further extending the lead, whilst at the other end Manual, who was a virtual spectator for most of the half, could only watch Spa's only goal-bound effort courtesy of Josh Hurdman come back off the post and James Lemon fire well over from 8-yards out which just about summed up the Saltmen's afternoon.

There was one more chance for the hosts, and a great opportunity for Ellis to register a hat-trick, but when through on goal he dragged his effort wide.

Droitwich will have two weeks to re-group, as their next fixture is on Saturday 2nd December with a visit to bottom of the table Smethwick Rangers (ko 3pm).

Spa have slipped to third in the table, and Hinckley now have a great opportunity to extend their lead at the top to 7 points on Saturday when they travel to AFC Bridgnorth.
