Spa through to next round

Droitwich Spa proceeded to the next round of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with a comfortable enough 4-2 win over Bewdley Town.

Despite the 6-goals, the game didn't offer much of a spectacle for the 237 spectators, with Bewdley low on confidence and Droitwich ringing the changes, with 9 modifications from Saturday's League win, it was a disjointed affair with few goal-scoring opportunities.

The first chance fell to Town defender Charlie Foley who headed over from a good position, and it took 28 minutes for the Saltmen to muster a first meaningful attack, which also produced a goal as a sumptuous cross from distance by Jack Davies was headed in by Roland Krol, scoring his first goal for Spa in 11 appearances.

Bewdley responded and former Droitwich man Aston Amies hit a fearsome drive wide from an angle.

Then Luke Molloy forced a good save from De Garis in the Town goal as he tipped a dipping free kick over the bar.
From the resulting corner, Gavin Podmore rose highest to powerfully head in to De Garis's goal on 36 minutes. It was the Spa defenders first goal for the club too.

Next it was Nathan Binner's turn to score his first for Droitwich, and with the goal of the game - a fine free kick which looped over the wall and passed De Garis.

Josh Hurdman then came close to adding a fourth before the break after some tidy footwork, he cut inside but his curling effort went just the wrong side of the post.

The crowd were entertained at the break by the 2516 Droitwich Squadron marching band, but the second period failed to come to life.
Jack Davies had the only noteworthy chance for Droitwich as he forced De Garis into a low save with his feet from close range, with the Saltmen controlling possession throughout, whilst Town sat back.

Bewdley rarely threatened, but did pull a goal back with 8 minutes remaining as Josh Hinds scored with a powerful header from a corner, and the Riversiders set up a nervy finish when the returning from injury Dom Rogerson committed a foul in the box after failing to clear his lines.
Former Droitwich man Josh Harrison confidently stepped up to convert the penalty to make it 3-2, from nowhere, and give Town a chance of taking the game to penalties with 3 minutes remaining.

Spa sub Connor Collins had other ideas though, and after a great ball in from Perry Moss, the Droitwich striker finished well from close range to mark his 100th goal for the club in just 114 appearances to seal Andy Crowther's sides' path through to the next round.

On Saturday, Droitwich are at home again against Paget Rangers in the Midland Football League Division 1 (ko 3pm) where they will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table.
