Spa leave it late but go through to Final

The Saltmen were made to wait until the 85th minute to net the eventual winner which guided them through to the County Cup Final after a plucky effort Redditch Borough.

The visitors started the game the stronger with confident runs forward from Albutt, Westwood and Hall which looked to make inroads into the home defence, but Matty Oliver in the Droitwich goal was never seriously troubled.

Spa eventually got into their stride and were guilty of missing a handful of chances in the first period.

Bradley Burgess spurned two efforts mid-way through the half - once firing wide when well positioned and the winger was then denied by a good save from Boro' stopper Josh Gandy, whilst Ben Tilbury smashed a long distance drive wide of the post.

Mike Seeley & Matty Hunt also had headed efforts from set-pieces cleared off the line in a stout defensive display from Redditch, expertly marshalled by former Droitwich player Jamie Hatfield.

Redditch's best chance fell to Jack Albutt who muscled his way in between Matty Hunt and Jonny Brooks, drove into the box but chose to fire his low drive to the near post which Oliver parried clear to end the first half goal-less.

The second half was a more balanced affair as both sides enjoyed good spells of possession, but neither goalkeeper was severely troubled.

Droitwich did look more potent going forward than their Worcestershire counterparts, but were lacking some cutting edge in the final third.

As the half wore on, the Saltmen applied more and more pressure but the Boro' defence held firm until in the 85th minute, when a Cory Rudd corner wasn't sufficiently cleared and Matty Hunt was on hand to smash home the loose ball from 10 yards out.

Droitwich didn't have much more defending to do for the remainder of this game, and deservedly took their place in the County Cup Final for the fourth season in a row, when they will take on Malvern Town Reserves.
